~ my latest project ~

i don't know if anyone caught my thread in Lancer General (https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=106050) a while back asking what was behind the lower dash and under the front of the center console, but...

I fInAlLy GoT mY tOyS!! my fiancee and her family were very kind to me at Christmas.

first, here is the latest pic of the gutting of the Lancer's dash...

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/at...id=52732&stc=1

I DEFINITELY have enough space for the sub now. don't worry...it will all look stock again when i'm finished.

here are my new toys...

i wanted to hold off for a Zapco 6 channel, but who am i to turn down a bad-a$$ Christmas gift?!?! besides, i didn't want to sink a fortune into this project, and i think this amp will do the job just fine.

I'm going for a 12" in the center of the dash Probly a Helix, but I may buy a helix, and have ID put the cone onto an IDmax (so my sponsor doesn't know I''m using an IDmax

well...it's been a long time, but i finally finished the fiberglass enclosure for the dash. It's UGLY, but it's functional. the reason it looks so...well...lumpy is i ended up using an 8" X 8" chunk of styrofoam to form the fiberglass around. i carved up the styrofoam to fit the exact shape of the inside of the dash (to maximize airspace). i then mounted a piece of MDF to the bottom of the styrofoam (to mount the sub in), wrapped it in fleece, and 'glassed it. i didn't want to use too much resin on the outside (fear of it not fitting after i was finished), but i reinforced the inside with more resin and fiberglass mat. i haven't heard it in the car yet, but i bench tested it...all i can say is by the way, about a half inch of it can be seen between the lower dash and center console (if you are looking for it), so i painted it flat black to try and hide it a little better. but it really won't be seen for the most part.

anyway...here are the pics......

look at the first pic at the beginning of this thread, where i mention "gutting the lancer's dash". i removed the small piece of plastic w/ the pocket at the bottom, center of the dash. i then relocated/removed a few things to open up enough space. the 'glass enclosure will be going in that hole at the bottom of the dash and slightly back into the center console area...but when i put the dash piece (which now no longer has a pocket) and the center console back in, the enclosure won't be seen. the sub will be firing down about 2 or 3 inches from the floor. i hope this all somewhat made sense.

thanks bro...yeah, it will be firing down, a few inches from the floor. if it sounds as good in the car (without making my dash go f-ing crazy) as it did when i bench tested it...i will be quite happy!! i did a sine sweep, and it was solid down to what had to be 30-40 hz. if i get a chance later today, i'll clean my nasty-a$$ interior and get some pics of it in the dash...it should make more sense then.

nice!

the box will be almost completely hidden under the dash...so no fun to be had with sitting on the center console. makes me want to put a row of 10s there though! lol

i've thought about the cd player skipping, but i'll be backing off the gain a good bit, just so i get a solid kick drum/bass guitar presence in the front. hopefully, since i won't really be getting on this sub, it won't cause too much trouble.
