Polk/MOMO MM2124 12" Subs (Good/Bad) ?

Hey,

I posted this in the Evo Show n Shine forum, but so far I haven't been getting any help. I was hoping you guys could help me out in here- y'all seem more in touch with the audio scene. Anyway, What's the verdict on these subs? I'm thinking about picking up a pair locally this week end for a decent price. Here's a link to them on crutchfield:
12" Polk MM2124 Subs

Thanks.

Jon

i had it...it didn't really hit, my eclipse 10" hit WAY better than the 12" mm124. i didn't really like it, you can get better subs.

Were there any differences in how you amped them? They're rated at 400 watts RMS, and I've seen other reviews that said they hit prety hard. Just trying to account for the difference of opinion. Thanks bro.

Polk is a pretty good brand. Seems like a good product, but I am not a pro. I put the cheap 10" polk momo sub in my wifes xb with a cheap amp, and to my surprise it sounded a lot better than I expected. Hits pretty hard, the only problem I hear is a small amount of distortion, but the box is a little small, and im runnin a pretty crappy set up but she likes it.

Your vehicle, true power from your amp and the enclosure have more to do with how it sounds than the subwoofer. There are so many differences that there really is no better brand, it's more a question of what works in your application. I have $2K in software and another $8K in test equipment to help me pick the right sub for an application. The best choice is a different sub every time.

Since that Polk has a relatively small enclosure recommendation and low sensetivity, I would think you want to be in the upper range of RMS power handling. That means getting a "REAL" 800 watts for the pair. A good deal on subs isn't so good when you need to spend much more on an amp.

I have 2 of those 12'' Polk/Momo subs with a 350watt mono block amp by Directed Audio. I love the setup. These subs get some of the deepest bass I've heard out of any of my friends systems. Believe it or not with just a 350watt d-class mono amp they hit very hard. I would recommend these subs. =D

Stoked thanks for your help guys. I'll probably pick them up this week end. The plan is to put them in two custom fiberglass wheel well enclosures so I'll make sure the size and everything meshes with the sub specs. Next I have to figure out which amp to use. Good thing I'm broke now; the decision can wait

Yea give those subs just around 1 cubic foot of air space each. I would definetly go with a mono block amp (D-class). They are really an amp dedicated for subs. If you go with the mono amp stay over 350 watts. That is how powerful mine is and it hits hard. The problem with a mono amp is that they are expensive.. =(

Thanks. I just picked them up today, so I will start looking for good amps now. I think a mono is too expensive-- gunna try and amp them off a 2 channel amp if I can. I'm open to suggestions if youve got them. Thanks.

Here is a Bazooka 500watt mono amp.. [ http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...roductID=12838 ] This would really push those subs hard. Only 185 bux. That isn't bad at all. Remember, a mono amp is specifically made for subs and has constant RMS power. 500watts is actually 500watts, unlike regular 2/4 channel amps which 500watts would be peak power, only around 250 or so RMS. That website I gave you, www.onlinecarstereo.com has great deals once in a while. They have almost anything you are looking for at a lower price than a retail store.
