Need help from experienced audiophiles

Ok... so I'm a heavy research first kinda guy so I'm looking to gather as much information as possible before shelling out any cash for my system.

Current setup: 1 Kenwood KDC-x592 H.U. + 4 stock speakers

Planned setup so far:
2 Polk MM2104 10" 4 ohms 300w rms subs (BOGO for $100 @ Crutchfield)
4 Audiobahn AS65v 6.5" speakers 100w rms 4 ohms ($80 @ onlinecarstereo.com)
- I know many people think audiobahn is crap but I've sort of been obsessed since childhood and I need something audiobahn in my system to satisfy this obsession. Be kind... I know this is irrational thinking.
1 Polk c500.1 350w x 1 @ 4 ohms, 500w x 1 @ 2 ohms ($200 @ Crutchfield)

I listen to mostly rap, r&b, electronic/house/dance/synthpop, some alternative rock, experimental rock, indie hipster rock... you know your typical liberal arts college jams. I'm a big fan of a well-balanced high sound quality setup and I despise those bass-heavy, poorly tuned setups where you can smell the burning subs at stop lights. I'm looking for around 250-500 watts for my low end with tight, accurate bass but not lacking in boom altogther. I think my music tastes would do best with a .66 ft^3 sealed enclosure with a fair amount of Dacron. Am I wrong? Currently I'm only planning on using one of my bogo subs and selling the other due to space concerns. Mistake? I think I read somewhere that my car outputs 12 volts and most rms ratings are @ 14.4. How much wattage will I lose and would buying a bigger battery, alternator, or upgrading the big 3 fix this issue?

I know I didn't leave much room for help but anything you have to say would probably help me out as I've been researching/helping others set up systems for years but I've never actually done the labor. Any system component suggestions other than the ones I'm planning on buying for less money would be helpful as well... I'm a broke *** college student selling my macbook (PC ftw!) to buy this stuff.

Also I know this is covered in a couple threads but the info is contradictory... what is the actual size for the oem door and deck speakers. I believe the consensus is that the front door speakers are 6.5 and should be shallow enough to not stop the window from rolling down. Some people have said 6.5 for the rear deck and some have said 6.75. Which is it? Has anyone found speakers that will fit either of these locations with no modifications and no adapters... plug and play (pray) if you will?

first of all, the speakers all around the car are 6.5" you can fit any speaker, no matter how big the magnet, as long as you use spacers. my speakers magnets are about 4" in diameter and an inch deep and they fit fine with a half inch spacer. Also, you WILL HAVE TO MODIFY THE DOORS to fit the speakers. The stockers are held in by turning the whole speaker into tabs in the door, and those tabs need to be all cut to make the opening big enough in diameter all around. You will see when you start working on the doors.

I personally dont like polk, but if you want that, then they sound like a good deal. as for the amp, i prefer separate amps for speakers and subs just because 1. it looks better, 2. if one amp dies, you still have at least the other one, and 3. it makes you look smarter in doing a multi-amp system!

other than that, the system looks nice, just make sure you fuse the amps right!

good luck

Using multiple amps reduces clarity. How do you know the speaker size and the tab thing? Have you owned the 03 oz rally? I don't mean to be rude but I have to be absolutely sure the info is valid because I don't want to be stuck making mods that I don't need to.

how do you know multiple amps reduce quality? have you tried multiple setups involving a single and multiple amps? what amps did you use? and wow i completely forgot to look at your information on the left and didnt see that you have an 03 OZ.....i was talking about the 08 lancers...sorry man!!!!!

but in any case, you should be able to fit any depth speaker as long as you use spacers to keep the window from hitting the magnet.

Have you tried using crutchfield.com? You can choose the certain make and model of your car. Also it will tell you if a certain size fits. It says the 6.5's fit both the front and the read deck.

Note they won't have the specific Audiobahns you're looking for. Well just the as50v.

For the rear speakers i know you have to get a specific adapter. I have aftermarket rears. That i got with my headunit from Crutchfield.

Hope that helps.

definitely dont use crutchfield to measure size.....they measure depth, and no aftermarket speaker will fit in a stock spot if you arelooking at depth, so pretty much, according to crutchfield, no speaker will fit in your car!
