Without a doubt. It is definitely illegal. I draw the line at using cell phones and driving. At least you still have your eyes on the road when doing that. Watching a DVD while driving is just plain retarded (for the driver).

I didn't think a DVD player would work while driving. Thought you had to have the car parked and not moving to make it work.

it is 100% illegal to drive with a screen in view of the driver. it is possible to bypass the safety interlocks, and it's not that hard either. however, I can only speak for my juristiction in saying that if a cop sees you with a screen in view of the driver they can, and will charge you with dangerous driving, meaning you lose your license on the spot for at least a year, and your car is impounded.

I thought this was a feature of the newer dvd players at a certain point maybe a year or two ago. I remember talk of how the dvd players were having the feature of not being allowed to play while driving. Of course you can get an older one or prolly mod it to be allowed to but hopefully not for you when your driving.

there is ways around even the best new ones. It is illegal but if you do the best advice I think I would give is dont ever watch a movie you havent seen and look at the road more then the screen and listen to the movie.

It is very easy to get around the parking brake lock-out (will not play video unless the parking break is on). My flip-up is bypassed but I don't watch DVD's while driving. When I first got it I used to let the passenger put a movie in, but I found it way to distracting...even if I had seen the movie many times. I also have a bunch of concerts on DVD and used to play those while driving and just listened to the music...but there's still that urge to look and watch.

It's not worth the ticket and/or jail time. Yes, jail time!!! There was a guy up north that had a movie playing on his flip-up (in dash) screen. When he glanced down to watch for a second...he hit a child who had run into the street. Needless to say, last I heard he was being charged with vehicular man-slaughter. Is this story completely true, I don't know. Do I want to find out on my own, HELL NO!

not trying to tc or anything, but why would you (the driver) ever want to watch a movie (or something else) while driving ? It's not like it's live tv, you can pause it, pull over, and watch all you want. You not only put yourself at risk, but all the drivers around you. Even with driving directions, get one with voice commands, it's just not worth it man.
