how many watts are you running?

general rule:

0-500watts = no need, but 0.5 farad wont' hurt.
500-1000watts = 0.5 farad cap at least
1000+watts = 1 farad cap or more

cap is only gonna make your bass more accurate and help draw the "immediate" response away from the alternator/battery. you still have to supply power to the cap.

Yeah, get a cap. Then you won't have to worry nearly as much about dimming lights and having too many electrical devices drawing current during a loud part of a song.

If you can get one, get it. I wouldn't worry a whole lot about it though, not for what you are running.

dont' waste your money what cupoznj said is the best rule buuuutttt
in our lancer
the batter has plenty of power to power your car and system. i have over 1500 watts between 2 type r's and interior speakers i have nothing i am getting a battery but the car does fine without it. the worst it does is dimm the headlights when at idle. if that bothers you get a cap, 1 fared no less .5's are useless better to have more than too little

Get a cap! Even if your lights don't dim, you're still causing unnecessary drain on the alternator and battery, thus shortening their life. Trust me from experience. What's cheaper a cap or a new alternator?
