Replacing headunit of a 2003 Lancer

Hey, I've read couple of posts in here regarding to changing the stock headunit of a lancer 2003. I recently bought the car, in Australia the car is called Lancer CG VR-X 2003.

So I decided to change the headunit and bought myself a pioneer DEH-P6850MP (I think it's P6800MP in the US). I read the guide and it's pretty straight forward and I think I'll be able to manage installing it myself.

But before doing so, I'd like to ask you guys couple of questions. First, there's the red flashing light on hte stock headunit, I heard that if the headunit's removed hte car wont start is this true? Second, I don't quite understand with the wiring harness thingo, I think it comes with one but I really don't get what I do with it.

I hope you guys can help me out

I just realised there's a wiring harness in the package, would this be all i need? Or do I still need to buy something else?

never heard of the flashing light thing. i doubt it will make the car not start. what might happen will be that the radio will crap out and not work unless a code from is put into it, only then will it be functional again.

the wiring harness it comes with will need to be:

1. connected to a second wiring harness that will interface with your lancer one.
or 2. spliced into your lancer wiring harness.

splicing is cheaper and works just as good if done right... but if you aren't %100 sure about what you're doing (especially if you don't have a diagram as far as which wires are what) i recommend just buying a wiring harness. you may still have to do some splicing with the harness, but most come with instructions and it's a piece of cake after that.

a really good place to order from is crutchfield (crutchfield.com)... but that might not be the greatest for you since you live in australia and not the US. i will dig around in my basement to see if i have my diagram for the stock wires. that should help you if i can find it.

check this out, just posted: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh....php?p=3458463

i am not %100 on that wiring harness diagram, i haven't messed with my stock one in quite a bit. that should be accurate, i will look around a little more to see if there were any papers i missed.

okay, i found what we were missing, we can thank "diamondstar03" here for this:

"FUNCTION PIN WIRE COLOR
Accessory 12 Volt 11 BU/YW
Constant 12 Volt 10 RD/BK
Chassis Ground BODY
Power Antenna 4 YW
Remote
Illumination 3 GN/WT
Dimmer 9 BK/YW
FUSE VALUE FUSE LABEL FUSEBOX LOCATION
10 AMP #17 DRIVER'S SIDE UNDER HOOD
10 AMP #18 DRIVER'S SIDE UNDER HOOD

If the vehicle is equipped with six-speakers, the tweeters will be wired in parallel with the door woofers. Front speaker wire colors are the same at the tweeter and woofer locations.

Left Front Spkr + 2 RD/WT
Left Front Spkr - 8 RD/BU
Right Front Spkr + 1 RD
Right Front Spkr - 7 GN
Left Rear Spkr + 5 WT/BU
Left Rear Spkr - 13 YW/RD
Right Rear Spkr + 6 L.GN
Right Rear Spkr - 14 YW/GN
At Speaker YW/BK
At Speaker YW/RD
At Speaker L.GN
At Speaker YW/GN"

yeah it's triptronic. but it's still an auto haha, I dont mind actually, since I drive it everyday through traffic jams.

btw lancerman360: how did u swap the air filter to a pod filter? did u just simply take it out and replace it? What happens with that computer just before the filter? Do they need to be altered? Please help me out

I couldn't imagine shifting a manual with my left hand, even though I'm a lefty.
