Need help with Tweeters!!!!!!!

Hey guys I am installing tweeters in my 03 ES. I bought some cheap one off ebay for like 5 bucks shipped and just unplugged my door speakers and pushed the wires into the clip to see how they sound and they sound like S#!T . I could barely hear them with my ear right to the tweet!!! I think I just got what I paid for so I went to best buy and bought some power acoustik NB-2 tweets. I havent hooked them up yet to see how they sound. Do I or should I power them with an amp? they are 200W peak and 100W RMS. I am installing different door speakers that I am running with an amp and low pass crossover and was going to use the tweets as highs with just the stock head unit power. However it is a 6 channel amp so I can power them with the amp too if needed just not sure if I need to or not thanks!!!

Get a new head unit, nowadays they are pretty powerful right out of the box and are perfect for what you are looking for. Just a set of tweeters so no need to amplify them seperately. They could work with an OEM head unit, but, with an aftermarket unit, they'll work much better.

uh i can't believe no one has said anything about a crossover yet. When you buy components/two ways they come with a crossover to limit the frequency allowed to go to both the tweeters and the woofer. If you hook up tweeters without one, i wouldn't be suprised if they blew. On another note I have run a set of tweeters just off the stock speakers but to be honest, it is nothing like getting a nice component system. Check out ebay or some stores in your area. Most people run components up front and coaxials in the backs. That way you don't gotta mount tweets in the backs...

^x2 Most good component sets come with the crossover box that has to be mounted as well. The speaker wire leads into the cross over from the HU, then splits the signal between the highs and mid range, and sends the respective signals to the proper speakers. Last thing you need to do is send mids and lows to the tweeters. No matter if amped or not (most components need more power anyways, so amped is always better) the tweets will pop, and the money you pay will go down the drain, just like the e-bay tweets.
