MTX or Kicker?

The place im working at has all MTX and Kicker products at 75% off for employees. The deal ends December 31st, so i want to purchase some items, but im not sure what to upgrade yet. I have 08 lancer GTS with the sun and sound package, and nav and tech. I was thinking about either some amps, or some sub woofers. What are the best subs and/or amps MTX or kicker makes?

the speakers seem fine stock. (plus i dont feel like ripping apart my doors yet)

the best? the best for what? that all depends on what you want to do

the best as far as loudest..mtx jackhammer but thats not realistic..

mtx t9500 is like...1000 watt rms a piece i think (going off the top of my head
the t8500 is like 500 rms or so..

kicker also makes a good speaker...

idk why dont you ask the ppl where u work see wut they say..look into it a little bit..check out the websites for mtx and kicker and see what your choices are and what your store has..

do u want trunk rattling bass or actual sound quality??

here's 1 version of your debate:

http://www.mtx.com/caraudio/headtohead/kicker.cfm

this is an overbeaten topic bcuz of the price range these subs fall into.

be more specific & do ur research on the car audio forums NOT EvoM!!!!

if u want ridiculously loud bass, then either brand will do (MTX T9500 or Kicker L7)if u get their highest RMS powered model in a 15" w/a ported box.

if u want ur car to sound really good, u need to look elsewhere for ur sub choices- JL Audio W7, Diamond Audio D9, Alpine Type-X, Focal Utopia Be, or the best of the best- Image Dynamics iDMAX 12D2 V.3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

those are all high powered subs too..and since he's getting a dead on mtx / kicker he prly wants to go with one of those.

but like housedj said you have to look into it and it all depends on what you want..what kind of music you listen to..how loud do you want it..think about these things

Hey everyone, thanks for the help. Sorry I forgot to mention the above things, but I did ask on other forums as well, and I think I've narrowed it down. I listen to a wide variety of music, from hip-hop to rock to techno, and im looking more for good quality rather than louder bass. The price point was mute (no pun intended) since the most expensive sub available to me is normally $2k, and it would only cost me $500, which i could resell later for more if I didn't like it.

And the place I work at doesn't specialize in car audio, only car performance parts so they just told me to get whatever one cost the most (doesn't sound like a good opinion to me lol)

Bladed, if it's SQ u want go with Image Dynamics hands down. no other sub compares quality wise.

The reason he wants to go with mtx or kicker is because he's getting a huge deal on those two companys..sure there are others i would get also, but given the circumstances the mtx t8500's might be what you're kinda lookin for..a pair of those in the right mtx box will sounds fine and for rly cheap with your discount..still gotta get an amp tho..

I have a pair of 12" Kicker CVR's and they sound great to me. My amp is kind of cheap though, but over all the sound quality is good, and if I want to rattle the wax outta my ears I can. I have been back and forth between Kicker and Fosgate and so far the Kickers are winning in my opinion.

So what did you go with?

LOL in my opinion you work for Circuit City.... I used to work there as well! If you want SQ get eclipse amp/subs .... before i left they were "ABOUT" to offer 75% off. . . do you know the status on that??

Since i couldnt decide i got a MTX 12" 9500 in their box, the thing weighs 100 pounds... i recommend NOT putting it in your car unless you want to slow down ALOT. You can literally plug this thing into an AC outlet and it will not blow. They are incredible. If you get an L7 make sure you get the right amp for it (check out kicker.com dont listen to your sales guys they most likely dont know anything, if you really want help go see the installers). Kicker definitly not as rock solid, but have some good boom, i had 2 12" L7's in a dodge neon and it was WAY too much base (4 cu. ft of box was too much as well LOL). I actually ended up getting a whole kicker system that i was rather satisfied with. . . Their recommendation is actually spot on, if you can get a 400$ sub for 100$ bux, just grab the most expensive one.. .. you get the most savings!! (then sell it after a year for a profit!)

I have a Kicker solobaric L7 12 in a ported box and it sounds great. I have a Memphis 500 class D amp pushing it but thats just me, dont want it to be real loud, just for it to sound nice.

If you listen to a little of everything I would go with the 2 T7500 10"s from MTX in the slegdehammer enclosure. They are the best compromise between price and loud bass but have a tight enough response time to perform well on the high BPM of techno and metal. This is due to the Asymmetrical Linear drive on their subs. MTX also has a technology called spider plateau venting that is patented to them and will allow your subs to take a ton of power and keep your voice coil cool. These subs are practically bullet proof you can plug them into a wall socket (around 3500 Watts) and you wont melt the voice coil. Let me know what you want to spend though. These are just a great sub that will play all music types and not break the bank. After these the price jumps significantly to T8500's and 9500's but these subs aren't as responsive at high beat per minute.

Like was said above what are you looking for in terms of sound and what do you want to spend. My last 2 systems have been MTX and IMO they are making the best stuff they have ever made right now. I was an Alpine JL guy before but the new MTX gear matches JL and is half the price. and Alpine has went way down hill in the last few years.

I have been selling, installing and repping for audio for 9 yrs if you have any questions feel free to PM me.

good luck

PS what do you plan on running for you mids?
