Mitsubishi Parts: Nav Install Kit

Hey,

just confirming...the Navigation Install kit available through Mitsubishi parts - does it fit any double DIN unit? I'm interested in picking it up, then getting a Kenwood DNX7100 for my GTS. My workplace is an authorized KW dealer so I am keeping my fingers crossed that the install kit will make it easy to throw in the unit. Any thought will help, thanks guys!

Harrison

I have the avic d3 from pioneer, and the dash kit mitsu has is a little big. I did read on here somewhere that one guy made it work. I dont think its exactly double din though.

I have the AVIC-D3 as well. The deck fit fine but there was a fairly large gap around the unit so I had to fabricate a plate to fit around the deck and cover the gap. I am pretty sure the Kenwood would fit... it should be roughly the same size as the Pioneer right? The stock NAV system just has a huge screen so most after market double DIN units will leave a gap around it. I can post pics if you want of how mine looks. Let me know.

Here is a shot of the deck (AVIC-D3) with the factory double din dash kit. It's kind of hard to see but you get the idea. If you want a brighter picture I can post one when I get home tonight.

So you bought the Double din kit from your dealer? Those biatches just want to much. I hadnt paid a car note in 6 years. May take a little gettin used to before i go buyin a $300 piece of plastic.
Looks great though. What you make your trim piece out of?

If its not to much trouble, and you dont mind, a brighter picture up closer would be great.
Thanks,

so a piece of black plastic or dibond would work you think? im sure it would still look better than any aftermarket install kits...also, anyone know if Canada MitsParts will have this item to order?

the avic d3 comes with a trim surround just make sure you put that on and it will cover the gaps since there is no dash kit its ISO mounted so the trim gets rid of the gap.

I took my trim plate to the dealer and held it up to the factory nav. It was a huge gap still. i think some sort of fabrication will be necessary.

Im prolly goin to order that kit from the dealer soon, so i will see.

Merwin: I m sure they can order this piece rather the nav unit is avail. in Canada or not. You may have to contact a dealer right across the border if they wont hook u up. Usually a dealer will ship, but im not 100%on if the will to canada or not. Guess it depends on who you talk to.

I ordered the dash kit from mitsubishiparts.com for $350. The piece that comes with the D3 is nowhere near large enough to cover the gap. I made mine out of a small plastic sheet simailar to what most aftermarket kits use. Then I lined the outer edge with foam seal up the gap. I will try to remember to take it out and get some pictures for you all tonight.

Sorry the pictures are a little fuzzy. You should be able to get the point though. I also wrapped the plastic in a fake CF vinyl to hide the plastic look. Doesn't look great but it is better than flat black plastic. The first picture also shows the foam I used to fill in the extra gap. Hope these help you out.

I wish I could answer that for you. I know the dash kit from Mitsubishiparts.com came with the wiring, but I had the Best Buy I work at install it for me. They didn't say anything about having any problems, so I am guessing it came with everything they needed to hook up my D3... minus the steering wheel controls. :-(
