Troubleshooting a Stereo Install

Hello everyone,

I recently installed a new deck for my car. I double checked all the wirings and made sure the connections were secured when splicing wires. All the settings appears to work properly (as in my deck functions appropriately when starting, storing the settings, etc.).

However, the quality of the music appears to be significantly degraded (distorted when at a high volume) and my subwoofer has almost no bass output (weaker than stock bass).

My previous deck, a Sony, worked perfectly and had an RMS output of 17W x 4, this new deck I installed is 18W x 4, so I don't think it should have anything to do with switching to a different brand. I didn't mess with any of the wirings from the amp to the sub or to individual speakers, I just added a different harness for the new deck.

I just can't seem to figure out what I did wrong. I'm thinking of buying replacing new speakers for the speaker distortion problem, but I don't understand why I'm not getting any bass with 2 10" subwoofers that worked perfectly before.

I'm thinking could it be low car battery? Blown fuse on amp?

your not getting any bass? or its just not like it should be?

what im asking is are they working at all? i saw that you said almost no bass output, and then later you said no bass at all... so you should double check that theyre working at all..

could be a number of different things. did you change all the settings on the deck for the subs? did you make sure the RCAs are plugged in securely to the back? check settings on the amp..check to see if your amp is receiving power

hope i helped..good luck

Are you working with the Rockford system with factory amp and subs?
Most of the time, when you add an aftermarket head unit to a factory amplifier, it really messes up the sound. I've expreienced this with Bose systems...they're such a pain. The best thing would to do is to bypass all factory components if you have a factory amplifier.

I agree with YeOldeLancer....i tried to use the factory amp on a Mustang I was modding once and it was a lost cause....I woudl bypass the stock amp and just use the one in the deck.....if it were me....there's prolly something crossed with using the amp from the factory

If hes using the metra harness and has the rockford premium system, he would be getting no sound at all. There is no harness for it yet...
