Setup Idea

So I have just upgraded my 03 Lancer to the new 09 Lancer, and boy it is a change in cars

Anyways I have taken on the project of installing a new speaker system in the car, and have done a fair share of research.

My question is a comparative one, If I was to install 2 12in subs at about 400rms, w/ a 400rms amp backed by a cap, would it sound just as good or better with a system containing 1 12in sub at 800rms seeing a 800rms amp?

I am looking to have a clean crisp sound, but loud. I am putting dynomat and specturm in the trunk, and possibly the doors(anyone done this yet?), to prevent any rattling.

I would like to put a pair of cone tweeters in the back, but I am not sure where I could mount them, as anyone attempted this?

Some debate would be nice, thanks!

about the subs...it depends on the subwoofers. for whatever subs you choose to do two of, they could be some badass subs that require like 5 cu. ft. of air space each to run optimally, but theres no way in hell that trunk is able to fit 10+ cu. ft. total, unless you actually make the entire trunk THE BOX. OR, for the sub you choose to use alone, it could be a sub that requires only 2 cu. ft. of air space to run optimally (at your 800 wrms) and that would be louder than the other two, since they wouldnt have a box of optimum size. do you get what im saying? there is way more to subwoofers that just watts, but at least you know to use RMS wattage

about the door sound deadening....I have sound deadened all my doors.....would you like to see pics? or do you have any specific questions?

about the tweeters in the back...I would just get some nice coaxial speakers, possibly with directional tweeters on them so you can aim them a bit up into the car. dont waste money on speakers that you wont listen to! you sit in the front, so go all out on the front speakers, and a good pair of coaxials will do for the back.

good luck!

Yes Please post pics, I am curious as to how you were able to get the sheets of deadening material down inside the door. How much sq ft did you use with the cabin, and how much of it did you use? Does it add serious weight to the car as well? I have decided that this is a setup that I will build over time. So for now I am buying the system piece by piece. Starting with the Nav kit offered by Mitsu. On eBay there are tons of listings for subwoofers. All of these listings bring many choices.

Which sub, or subs, would be a nice pic? I grew up on Memphis, and I have seen them pound the ground, but for a $140 I am willing to buy a pair of pioneer 12in shallow mount subs. So which would be perform better? Fosgate, Pioneer? Sony? or at this point are they all just names?

Additionally, I have a 300w fosgate amp, that I would like to have running to the highs and mids, will this cause me to rip out all of the factory speaker wire? I have looked around the car, and seen that in the 09 ES they have already ran the wire for the speaker upgrade, so it should be pretty simple running the wire. Would anyone have a better recommendation?

With all of this, I am looking for a really nice crisp loud sound.

Sorry for the extremely long post, so many questions

i dont mind all the questions lol, i will do my best!

as for the pics, i cant right now, but tomorrow night i can...im away from my desktop, sorry! and you have to remove all the door panels to put the sound deadening on, being careful to cut holes in the sound deadening for all the screws and such that go into the door. I bought a grand total of 100 sq. ft....of that 100, I have approximately 25 left AFTER doing the following: trunk lid (3 layers), every other spot in the trunk (1 layer), under the back seats (1 layer), and all 4 doors (1 layer each). honestly, the sound deadening does weigh a lot, but only if you are holding the whole 100 sq. ft. together in your arms

subwoofers- i wouldn't buy pioneer anything except head units. their HUs are GREAT, some of the best, but i personally dont like their subwoofers, speakers, or amps. since you want a crisp clear system, I would get JL audio, if you have the money. they are great for quality, and can still hit hard. I personally like kicker, but that's because i am an SPL guy, meaning i dont give a **** about quality, and just want as loud as possible! and remember, when you buy the subwoofers, look at the manufacturer recommended box size specs to make sure they can fit in your car and still sound great!

300w amp- i would not run separate tweeters off of one channel.....instead, get component speakers and have the component on one channel. is it a 2 or 4 channel amp? if 2: just run a good set of components in the front off of them, making sure the speakers are rated at 150 watts RMS or more (if the amp is in fact 300w RMS). if 4 channel: buy a component set and a coaxial set, each RMSing at 75 watts or more, and run them all off of the amp. as for running the wires, you could just cut the original speaker wires, the wire that is running from the radio, about a foot before they go through the car into the boot to the door and tap into those wires so you dont have to run new wires through the doors and everything.

good luck!

bro i got the same thing in my car and my system sounds better than cars with 2 12s =D

btw for the guy asking about the setup, caps are overrated. you do not need them for such a small setup. upgrade to big 3 and get a better battery in the front if your concerned about dimming
