System Recommendation???
System Recommendation???
Alright guys. I have no idea about car radios and speakers. My friend works at Best Buy and gets everything at cost (which is damn cheap, ex.= They have these 6 1/2 Kenwood speakers that cost $180 a pair, he gets it for $70). What do you guys recommend I get from Best Buy that would sound nice and give me decent thump. I also want to get XM Radio with it. And an Clifford alarm from them, they have one that retails for $500- He gets it for $120 (has remote start, lcd remote, etc...).
you my friend are in luck. i too used to work at best buy, and got most of my setup there at a sick price. they get insane discounts on rockford fosgate stuff, which is pretty good stuff for best buy. but here are some recommends:
HU: go with pioneer or kenwood. i would go with the pioneer 7500 because you can make your own OEL screensavers, it plays mp3s, and pioneer is the best they have. kenwood is good to, but i'm not liking their new HU layout and look, and they have sirius, not xm.
speakers: Ooo! i can't believe i didn't think of this right off. go with the pioneer 4-way 6 3/4 speakers. i think i have them listed in my profile as well. those things sound GREAT, and he should be able to get them for about 50 bucks. if he can't, i can, just pm me.
amp: as much as i like pioneer, they just had a recall on a few of their amps. apparently they have fixed the design, but its your call. again, i did my whole amp, amp kit, sub setup with rockford, and it sounds really nice. get around 300 watts RMS running to a 10 inch, and it'll sound nice and clean.
sub: pioneer or rockford.
that's all i can really think of right now. hope this helps. while you're at it, make sure you pick up some dynamat extreme. 2 door kits kill do the top of your trunk, the rear deck and the front doors with some to spare. they get that real cheap too, and remember, if it can raise your music 3db, it will sound TWICE as loud, so it is worth it.
now my questions. are you installing it yourself? are you planning on amping everything? what is your budget?

No budget. Plan on doing everything within a week or two. Wasnt going to but my rear speakers blew. So now I want a little knock in the back. But not too much (dont wanna weigh the car down too much). Was kind of just wanting to replace the stock head unit, and front and rear speakers. Maybe a 10 inch sub in the back. Dont know about radios and such. So I really dont know what to get. Do I need an amp If I just wanna replace the 4 stock speakers and the head unit??
if your boy trusts the install team, then its fine. but i personally would never had let anyone touch my car. best buy installs are notorious for being CRAP.
with that said, no, you don't need an amp for replacing the stock speakers. you'll even get a decent amount of thump from just replacing those, but if you want real low end bass, a 10 is the way to go. here's what my setup looks like:

honestly, i'd say just start with the headunit and speakers, and do it yourself. at least the rear speakers and headunit, they are no-brainers. the front door is more time consuming than anything else, but you should do that too. buy the psp for the speakers, and forget about an install warranty.
think about it. if they did it right, they wouldn't need a warranty, now would they?
with that said you'll need the following. (and here are my estimated BB discount prices).
pioneer 7500 $200
psp 4 year $5
pioneer speakers (two pairs, total cost) $100
psp 2 year $10
hu wiring harness (makes install a breeze) $5
2 sets speaker harnesses $5
so for your basic complete stock replacement, you're looking at under 350 bucks, if you install it yourself, and you'll have a SWEET pioneer setup.

Whats the head unit look like??? Those speakers look pretty hot. How much wattage can they handle?? Cause the Best Buy Computers said the Lancer has 6 1/2 all around and other places say its 6 3/4. Which one is it. The most expensive 6 1/2 speakers that I found at Best Buy were the Kenwood for $180, I think they handled 180 watts (not completely sure though), they had built in tweeters. Is it good to have all tweeters on both the front and rear speakers, or just the rear speakers??? Sorry for all of the questions, I just dont know anything on this subject. Thanks for all of your help tooo...

And how many watts can the Head Unit handle for 4 channels. Is it like 50watts per channel or 52. All I know is that the more it can handle, the better. My sister has a system in her car that my cousin did. Sounds like ****. The voices are way tooo loud. I hate it. Its like your ears are ringing if you have the radio up.
first things first. the head unit. yes, the 8500 is hot. i had the 8400 before, but honestly, the glare kinda from the brushed aluminum blinded me all the time here in florida. that, and you can't make your own backgrounds, which is the coolest pioneer feature to date.
