why run them at 4 ohms? run them at 2. each sub is dual 8-ohm. run each sub at 4 ohms, giving the final load an impedence of 2 ohms. get more bang for your buck with an amp!

I believe his concern is his amp not being stable down to 2 ohms. To be on the safe side, if you're not sure, run them at 8. If you're not sure, and don't really care about the amp, run them at 2, and monitor it's temp... It'll get really hot before it starts damaging itself or anything else.

yea, my amp can't run stable at 2 ohms, it overheats, but I'll have to see about wiring it up to 4 ohms if possible. any suggestions on the box size?

there's no physically possible way to wire up 2 dual-8 ohm subs to run at 4 ohms. for box sizes and technical info, i'd say go to adire's website, they list that stuff. or just call them, they have very friendly/helpful tech support.

alright, since there's no way to wire up to 4 ohms (took physics, don't remember much of it), and we know my amp isn't stable at 2 ohms, what would be the safest way to run it, or is 2 ohms gonna be the best option? it'll run that way for about 45 minutes to an hour until it starts cutting off from heat.

by the way, thanks for all the help so far. been great

you can run it at either 2 ohms or 8 ohms. but, 8 ohms would barely put out any power.

That's one of the nice things about the Shiva though, they don't need a ton of power to get loud. For what he's doing, I reccomend running them at 8 ohms for now, till he gets a new amp.

alright, I finally heard back from adire and they have the shiva's backordered until june 18th. I'm taking a bit of a road trip on the 12th, and I really wanted them before that. you guys think I should just wait it out or try and find something different?

silly idea... built a box ready for the shiva's. go to circuit city, buy ANY 2 subs that will work in the box with the amp you have. 30-day return policy, no questions asked. slap in 2 subs, give um back when the shiva's are off backorder!

they came yesterday, finally! I have them wired up to what I think is 8 ohms, and let me tell you they sound awesome. I'm not even entirely worried about trying to get them to run down at 2 ohms, because with the current setup, played at the loudest it'll go (before my speakers start to distort), it's about as loud as I'd ever want it. thanks for the suggestion! here's how I have it set up at the moment

one positive and one negative VC hooked directly with one wire, and the other pos and neg VC go straight to their respective spots on the amp. each sub is wired the same, and connected to 2 channels (bridged together) each, 8 ohms?
