EGT thread

Ive been searchin this forum for a month now tryin to find lists of what people are running EGT wise and its so scattered. So i decided to make a post for everyone to post their mods, and then their EGTs so people who are starting out can know a general idea where everyone else is...

Keep in mind everyones EGTs will be different depending on mods, motor condition, intake temps, etc, but at least we can have a general idea where average numbers lie

Heres mine...

t25 turbo intercooled
5.5psi
12:1 FMU running rich
stock injectors
255walbro
2.5" DP to 2.5" cat to 2.25" magnaflow catback

EGTs (in Fahrenheit)
750-950 at idle, 1100-1200 at street cruising, 1200-1300 at 75mph highway, 1450 topped out in full boost 4th gear

anyone who isn't running the usual sensor in the #2 runner might want to specify that as well.

just a thought,

my EGT set up is going in as soon as my ported EM arrives.

Good idea, everyone seems to put their egt probe in different spots since everyone gets different suggestions where to put it. Mine is in the right most exhaust runner looking at the engine drivers side...

i run mine in the rightmost runner, where i've been told your supposed to run it for the most accurate reading. That runner would run hottest anyways.

i'll try to get some numbers next time i go out, i know at idle i'm at about 800 degrees F, maybe a little more. I'll check out my 35 mph cruising in 4th gear when i go out.

Lot's of debate on that subject to be sure, this is typical of what I have found and observed regarding the 4G63 (courtesy of evomoto.com)

"Probably the biggest decision to make in this installation is where to mount the EGT probe. Ideally, the probe should be mounted in the exhaust manifold runner of the cylinder most likely to run the leanest. Based on our 4G63 experience, this would normally be cylinder #1 or #2 and, judging from plug readings, the Evo 4G63 is no different.

The EGT probe can pretty much be tapped anywhere in the exhaust manifold that has room for it. Likewise, the probe can also be tapped directly in the O2 sensor housing or in the downpipe. Mounting the probe after the turbo (O2 housing or downpipe) has the benefit of not sending chunks of metal through your turbine housing should the probe ever break (or during the install), but the drawback is a lower, and some feel, more inaccurate reading. Readings can be anywhere from 100°-300°F lower than with the probe mounted in an exhaust manifold runner. Why? The turbine and O2 housings are very good heatsinks.

For our install, we will be installing the probe in the #2 runner of the exhaust manifold."

on the lancer you want it on the driver side runner. The runner the farthest from the FPR and the closest to the TB. That runner is likely to run the leanest and become the hottest

Isn't the right most runner (4th cyl.) the closest cylinder to the fuel feed line? Wouldn't that make that cylinder run cool/most rich?

Cycl. #1 (left most cyl.) should run the hottest/leanest

my bad which ever is the farthest from the fuel feed is the one you want it on, i thought it was the right one. but you definatly dont want it in the middle.

The FPR and Fuel feed are on the passenger side. THe right most runner is on the drivers side farthest from the FPR and return....

Sorry, my bad, I just glanced at the originator's mods list when I looked at this thread ... (not really reading them or the 5 psi would have tipped me off)

Thought I was in an Evo thread (GRIN)... never mind, I have no idea where you guys need to run the EGT probe.

well your post still applies, you want to run with the leanest cylinder to get the best (safest) readings.

I checked out a few things yesterday

Idle - 800-900 F, 35 mph cruising 4th gear, 1100 F

Ported BIG T-28 turbo
~8 psi
Ported Intake manifold
Ported TB, full 2.5" turboback
the rest is in my sig / profile
