Road/Race Piggy-Back Evaluation
Well, the trucks I work on have up to 11 ECU's all talking to each other.
If the engine ecu is anything like our it will be able to tell you a lot more than just freeze frames when faults are stored. The freeze frames are just used to diagnose an inactive fault that has had a fair many counts.
The ecu and dealer software can do a lot more, unless you work at mitsu, i would be wary of readily waiving a 10 year warranty.
To be honest i dont even like the wiring. Unless you paste it up with some grote electrical grease. If you want go ahead and tape it up...it even traps the moisture more that without.
I just can't put myself to possibly voiding my warranty with and extra 10-15 ponies....

the ecu's your talking about are used in situation where the vehicle is gonna get BEAT on and they need to know EXACTLY what is going on... trucks, exotics, marine.
as for warranty voiding... its the name of the game with modding. I fully understand that people don't want to risk it. I however... have a 100hp of nitrous in mind
call me cynical but not all places are mod friendly, especially if there's money to be made. if you ever need the warranty just hope they're good on their word....
heres the other thing some people don't realize..
the dealership makes money on warranty claims... they charge the manufact. they don't care cause either way they get money. HOWEVER... the manufact may turn around and deny the claim they send in .. that is usually the only reason you get a little wiggy with the dealer.. they just want to make sure they get their money. most of the time if it's a lil twiggy, but you've been at the dealer for everything maint wise and spent your money, they will play with the wording of your claim to get the warranty work

I am not surprised as far as the dealer thing goes. It is solid. I have a ton of miles on the piggy and pulley now. I drive a 2008 everyday for 6 months now.

yeah most auto ecu's aren't as 'advanced' as the truck ecu systems.. the marine systems are similar to the trucks they record everything. the majority of auto ecu's only record when a fault is tripped. and even then they are looking for out of spec parameters, where the piggy's can only stay within oem ecu spec.

Not saying the piggyback is bad at all...i would love to have it but I bought a new car so i didn't have to work on it...so I like warranty LOL
Just for curiosity sake, have you dyno'd the lancer with the piggyback/intake and exhaust?? how much is it putting out after that ROCK?
Just curious....but truck ecu's have back up batteries for the computers, you can disconnect the batter and it will still store info...don't know if automotive has the same thing or not....I thought the automotive industry was way ahead of semi-trucks, but I guess we surpassed a few years back... at least I know why I get paid more than being an auto mekanik now :P

I see some misinformation in here. A piggyback doesn't modify anything in the ECU. It merely sends the ECU false signals and the ECU acts appropriate for the signals it's getting. A tech, even with the MUT computer, will not be able to tell if a piggyback was installed unless they actually see the wire splices.

Most techs aren't the smartest in the world. I've met some at my local dealership that didn't seem to know jack s**t. So it's perfectly possible that he didn't notice it. Or he didn't think the problem related to a piggyback so he didn't look. Etc.
