This engine can get plenty more power to the wheels without going to a turbo, people need to improve the performance of their car in a naturally aspirated trim before just slapping on the turbo as a quick fix. Have patience and let the after market parts start to roll in, before you know it there will be a lot more options to improve the engine without force feeding it air.

I'd like it if that were true, but I'm not hopeful...

You must be a Honda owner

cars have never responded well to anything BUT forced induction. Most other mods are near worthless.

A lot of what's out for the Evo right now is cosmetic stuff, most of which would fit the Lancer. So perk up...no reason to be sad

yeah, i'm surprised by the lack of parts also. i remember when the K20 first came out, development of parts was crazy fast.

i guess nobody wants to waste time and R&D on the regular ol' lancer and put all their efforts into the evo. lets just hope evo parts will be compatible

I just hope the small selection of parts is because companies are just slow to respond and not because the 4B11 is so difficult to work with it's not worth their effort.

Does anyone think the 4B11 has untapped hidden potential similar to the 2JZ-GE? I'm thinking a stock 4B11 can handle 6 times as much HP and tq than its actually putting out we just need to push it lol.

Well, anything is possible. They're both square bore with variable valve timing and an aluminum head, so I can see where you drew the comparison from. The GE takes massive amounts of time and money to extract power from and it isn't very responsive to NA mods...you have to go turbo in order to see any decent numbers from it; all of which would really apply to any engine. The kicker with the 4B11 is that its variable valve timing applies to both the intake & exhaust, which is going to make it difficult to do any meaningful (I use that term loosely) NA mods. The 2JZGE doesn't have variable timing on the exhaust, which gives you a better foundation for NA modding...makes it a little less tricky. The one thing the 4B11 does have going for it, however, is that its components will most likely be swappable from the 4B11T. The GE doesn't have that luxury...its GTE variant is a different animal altogether so hardly anything fits.

To actually get to the point and answer your question: Yes, the 4B11 has untapped potential but no more so than any other engine would, generally speaking.

Evo body panels probably WONT fit the lancer as the Evo is actually shorter than the lancer
