Do you have any evidence to back this up? A catback exhaust won't give you 15 HP, you'd be lucky to gain 5 with an intake and exhaust.

I don't remember saying anything about catback, axleback or a straight pipe.

You still don't have any evidence and 15 HP from a full exhaust (header and piping) is extremely optimistic.

You are right I don't have the current proof you seek at the same time how could I say an intake will net you only 6 hp? I was generalizing the situation. Is that cool with you?

With the amount of money you would have to throw at the lancer motor to create better power you might as well just save it all up for a turbo kit....

or a motor swap, lol

to have a custom grinded cam set made, ported and polished the crap out of the head, full exhaust, tune, cai, you would also need to put the car on a big diet....

in my opinion, its just not worth spending that much cash only to gain 50 horse ( estimated )

you might as well just put that much cash into the turbo kit or do something better with your money like pay off the car....

Sure since you're basically stating that your HP estimates are bunk.

And you wonder why people like this get flamed. We weren't asking your oppinion on what car to get to go faster than a lancer, we were asking about mods to a current lancer. If you are going to respond to every thread concerning a lower model than an evo with "get an evo", you are going to have a very short lived time on this board.

To educate you on why i bought a lancer. I paid for a new one $10,500 cash out the door for mine. I don't want to pay 35-55K for an EVO, pay overpriced insurance, pay overpriced service, and i don't want to drive a stick shift. Some of us enjoy modding cars that are cheap, customizing them to make them our own and unique, and generally to have fun. If I wanted an EVO I would have bought one!

The lancer can make good power, but as with anything in life it will cost you. Note you will need more than bolt ons.

This list is a good indicator:
A full racing exhaust with a straight through section and 4-1 headers with varying diameter.
A CAI
Lightweight crank pulley
Lightweight flywheel
Stronger clutch
Port and polish
Aggressive tune (total dyno tune)
Higher compression pistons or a thinner head gasket
Stage 2 cams (in development I heard)
Larger injectors
Iridium spark plugs
And then due to safety and the lighter pulley and flywheel, I suggest engine rebalancing.

After that if you want more, you would want to be able to rev higher and for that you will need stronger internals... which are about $3000.

All in all it can be done, but dont hold your breath for just bolt on mods. Also I would do a lot with the suspension and weight loss if I were you...
