Is that what uses in general or just your dealer?

And If I keep using different brands of oil every time I do a oil change just to check them out, Is that bad for our motors?

I have seen some posts wwhere people said their dealer used Penzoil so it might be nation wide I guess, I am not sure if it badfor your motor which I dont think it would be because it serves a purpose but I have used about 2 different ones and I am now going back to Penzoil platinum full synthetic. I would assume knows what is best for our cars.

Ah yes you are right. I think it's just better to stay with what Mitsu uses. I don't think there will be much of a difference between brands other than the Royal Purple. So RP is a no no for non racing cars. Got it. thanks

Ive been using mobil 1 for a long time (did a brief stint on Motul - Freebie). I recently did a 1k, 2k, 3k, 4k, and 5k analysis of the mobil 1. Meaning i sent a sample out every 1k miles to see how it held up. It was shockingly good. That test was hwy driving. over the next 5 weeks i will rallyx 5 times. I will be sending out for analysis during this period also. (started with fresh motul 300v oil).

I would say if your not racing it. Stick with mobil 1. It holds up great through the 4k mark (still waiting on the 5k analysis) and its 22 bucks for the 5 quart jug at any walmart.

Some people have good luck with the purple.. Back when i owned my truck, fellow truck owners would tell nothing but horror stories about that stuff. I tend to stay away from the barney oil!

I have switched to the Mobil 1 as well, and also get the 5 qt. jug at Walmart. I change it every 3k-5k miles and have had no issues. I still use the Mitsubishi brand oil filter; they are only $4.50 at the dealership. This Lancer has to be the easiest car to change oil on!! Even if you are mechanically retarded you can do it in your garage or driveway.

Yes it is. I ran it in my 01 Focus, my old Lancer, and my MS3. In all three cars, it looked burnt and it had a real bad smell. This was only after 1000 miles. I will never touch the stuff again. I use Mobil 1 in both my Focus and MS3 without any problems.

Why did you switch oil viscosity?

I have been using Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 5w - 30 in my Lancer from my first oil change to this day. I have had my car for 1 yr 7 months. Upon reading this thread I ahve noticed that dealers use whatever oil they choose to. I say this because most of you say your dealer uses Pezoil, my dealer uses Castrol Syntec and offer a Mobil 1 Package. I have been using the Mitsubishi Oil Filter although I wanted to get the K&N Oil filter. My Recommendation is the Mobil 1 Full Synthetic

I broke in the new engine for 3k miles with regular oil and now changed over to Royal Purple in my gvr4. So far no issues.
