Well the big question is whether you are going to go big boost on a turbo, low boost, or just stay n/a...

^Bingo, a full standalone ECU is great but not something you just buy for the hell of it. It's expensive to buy, expensive to tune and there's no guarantee that the car will run like stock.

I don’t know much about EMS other then my friend just installed one on his supra and he is a decent tuner and had a hard time getting it tuned properly. His wideband had gone bad. But even after replacement of a new one still had some problems I don’t know what they were though. But if you need it like stated above get it but if you don’t that’s a lot of money to waist on bragging rights. Did you ever think about ecu flash or safc? Those are both thing you can tune with that dozens of people have used on their lancer's.

I had one on my car a couple summers ago when I was NA. It was a very nice software to us to tune my Lancer at the time, but it was overkill since I wasn't turbo. The feature set was more than I could utilize at the time. I ended up selling it at the end of the summer and began using EcuFlash right after. EcuFlash is by far the better solution to use if you're NA or running anywhere from 12-13psi max boost. Anything past that and you'll be running on a built motor and the tuning capabilities of EcuFlash begin to drop the higher the HP goes because of the stock Lancer's limited ECU parameters.

List of ifs:
Boosting more than 10psi
Have bigger injectors
Wanting to vta the BOV
Wanting to get the very most out of your engine
AEM EMS Lets you customize just about anything and the great part is that its plug and play. So no cutting ecu wires or any of that stuff. Here in Tennessee it will cost you about $500 for a whole day on a dyno and that with the guy tuning it too.

Another great option for an EMS comes from Haltech with their new Platinum Sport 1000 and 2000 ECUs. This is the route I'll be going in my built setup.
