I just talked with a guy at MMR about their package. They said they can do a street cam or a race cam. What would the difference be? Also they said they can mill the head for NA guys for better compression? or leave it alone for folks wanting to go turbo. He said he believed the tb was bored to 68mm. He said everything should work and help prepare you for going turbo without having to remove any of it.

Thanks,
mechtn

Ok, now I think 58mm is doable (but that's about the max before you run the risk of cracking)..... good work on getting their numbers, in any event

this sounds interesting, but hasn't some one already said it doesn't include ecu upgrade for the lancer? if not, 1600 is pretty steep

Well, there's where shopping around pays off. I'd say the benefits of having a local shop do it are: you might be able to observe some of the process and learn some stuff. They can take the engine out/apart for you (with a mail-order kit you DIY). You might meet some really cool guys who will tell you what else they can do to get you where you want to go. If there's a failure, the shop can be held responsible or they'll just step up and fix the problem without a fight.

Either way you're without your car for several days..... and MMR sounds like they're just kicking the idea around.

this is a good price on a package that will yield some fairly impressive gains.

no it's not. it's bored out +5 mm (which is like 57 or 58) and the inlet is fluted to 65mm. Don't make me post a link

DIY or have a shop do it? DIY would probably take a few evenings at three or four hours a piece... and then it depends on how fine an abrasive you want to use (how many times to you want to go over it with finer and finer abrasives?). I'll be porting mine with carbide burrs and polishing to 320 grit (IM and head). If you had a whole day off, and a comfortable work area, you could probably start in the morning and be testing the IM by mid afternoon.....

A shop will probably quote you about a week and I'd say $125 or more, just for the labor.... of course, a week is what every shop near me says for everything.

GP-
$1600 isn't really expenisve for at least 40HP. let's do some numbers:
RPW stage 1 cam- approx $300
RRM IM : 349
RRM TB: 289
P&P at a shop- depends on the shop, but another thread was tossing around over $600 for Boe's P&P
Valve grind- at least 100 probably much more
---------------------------------------
total pieced together from other shops: $1640 if our numbers are even close.

DIY and save over $1400 plus gain knowlegde about your vehicle..... priceless (sorry, I really really tried to resist )

to get 50 HP from turbo: at least 3 grand.

Plus, the only thing you'd have to change if you decided to go turbo in the future is the cam profile. But you could make most of your money back on the first cam by reselling it.

$1600 just looks like a big number.
