S-AFC or Emanage?
S-AFC or Emanage?
Sorry if this is a repost, I ran a couple of searches...
I was wondering which would be a better application for an NA Lancer. I'm planning in the future to run cams, a full exhaust system (headers/downpipe and catback), ETC ETC. Would the S-AFC be able to keep up, and would it work later on if I installed it now? Would it benefit me now (just intake for engine)??? I can't find many comparisons on the Lancer side...

True... but it's a lot more complicated, and I'd have to get a laptop (because I have no idea about that E01 Programmer thingy... Could someone explain that?). I'm leaning towards the emanage, but if I get that now, how would it benefit me, if possible? Just tuning the AFR will help, right?

Out of the box, you're right in saying that the SAFC will be more useful. The ease of using it is the reason for that. In time though there's just no comparing the two as the E-Manage has options that the SAFC just doesn't have. It's not even fair comparing high/low settings on set RPM points vs a 16x16 grid (or more with the necessary harness) that YOU set the RPM points on.
And yes, just tuning the AFR will defintely help by eliminating flat spots (where the car isn't getting enough fuel) and spikes (where the car is getting too much fuel). Plus it comes handy when you forget you're entering a car show and you get a full tank of gas and need to burn down to less than a 1/4 tank.

Super AFC is no good for our cars. Because we have coil packs the super afc will not be able to control timing. and if you don't have the right timing setting you will have detination and if you are going to mod your engine you will also need to work the timing. I'm running a greddy emanage in my car now i love it. i used to have the AFC in my car and it was nothing but a pain. i know you don't have a lap top to tune the Emanage but after you do yuor mods and put the emaange in the car spend the extra 100 bucks to take to a dyno and have it tuned and you will never have to tuch it again. Trust me i have ran all different types of setups in the car and the Emange has been the most effective and well worth it.
My response to this is it all all what you can afford and what is most feasible for you. Even tho I dont agree the SAFC is no good for our cars, I would have to agree with prototype mike but make an addendum. True the SAFC cannot control timing; the SAFC is just that - an air / fuel controller. THose are the only two variables that can be altered. E-manage gives you more control over different features including timing. Having said that, it all depends on what you need in the beginning. I have been and still run SAFC on my setup, and that was both NA and boosted with no problems whatsoever. It all depends on what you need and what you want out of the car.
I had cams and all that in the car and SAFC ran them fine. If I ever do upgrade my current combo, it will be full EMS tho. For the price on Emanage, I have decided to spend a couple hundred more and get full instead of a pretty damn good piggyback.
In summary lol, SAFC is like the "base" unit you can get with just controls over the air / fuel mix. Full EMS of course is the ultimate, but Emanage falls smack dab in the middle, and is pretty damn godd itself.

I'm on a limited budget, and can only purchase one thing at a time. Therefore, I find the E-manage cheaper, but will it have the same functionality as the S-AFC w/o ignition harnesses and so on... if possible, could I get those later?
Could I tune basic things like the AFR myself, then take the timing and other things to a shop? I'm a DIY kind of guy when it comes to programming things. I say this because I have a laptop, but an old one (barely running 98 SE), and I may be getting a new one soon.
I'm just wondering if the Emanage was modular... like get it now, use it for AFR, then buy an ignition harness, etc etc. Is that how it works?
Thanks guys
Daniel

Absolutely. You can buy and install whatever harnesses you want whenever. I have all the harnesses but I'm only using it to pull a/f settings until I have a need (read: turbo) to install the remaining harnesses and sensors.
