Question Piggyback solder questions

I just recieved my RRM piggy today ( along with my intake - this thing looks SPECTACULAR !!! ) and i've seen the wiring diagrams but i have a few questions...

1. i know rock says u really should solder the connectors but where do you solder ? Pics would be a big plus.

2. what kind of solder do y'all use ?

3. for those ppl that have used the connectors - have u had any problems related to the connectors ?

I have searched on this topic but i can't find the right answers. I'm a mechanic for my daily job so i know how to how to crimp and wire just fine. Any advice would be more than welcome.

if you've never soldered before, practice a LOT before doing it on a nice expensive car

here's a how-to
http://www.geocities.com/jeffhendrix...00/solder.html

the most important thing is when melting the solder onto the connection, don't actually touch the solder to the iron/gun. Heat the connection, and press the solder to the opposite side as where the iron/gun is touching it, that way you'll know that the connection has heated sufficiently to flow the solder into it

i dont' want to be mean, but when you ask questions like "where do you solder" you should not be soldering, especially when it comes to expensive stuff like the piggyback.

crimping should be fine though

When I had mine, I did the crimping and had problems. Best to just solder it. I soldered it and it worked.

The soldering tool heats up and you heat up the wire by touching it (the part where it is strip and showing the metal) and when it heats up enough, you touch the solder to the wire and it melts over it, and the other wire wrapped around it, to hold it together.

And I know there are different types of solder to use. Not sure which kind to use. I used the stuff that was jst sitting in my garage. When you go to the store, just look for some for wires.

for solder type, it don't matter that much, pick up some regular rosin core solder. diameter is really what matters, ie don't pick up a big ole stick of it the size of a 2ga wire. the smaller and more delicate the job, the thinner the solder, the thinner the solder, the less extreme heat recquired, and so on

as for gains, run a search, people are saying 12%-18% hp gain

I didnt solder the wires on and mine works just fine... in fact I never had any problems with the piggyback like most have had on theirs i barely even had any idle problems? Kinda weird but oh well it is awesome and yes you can feel a significant diffrence with the piggyback. I kinda like that the wires arent soldered just in case I ever wanna disconnect it if I have to take the car to Mitsu it wont be a hassle trying to take it back to stock before I take it in or if I want to sell it later on taking it back to stock will be alot easier without the wires soldered on there. But thats just my look on it, it really depends on what you wanna do with your car in the long run and if you care about your warranty.

The connectors that come with it doesn't always make the connection good enough.. I just stripped the wires and wrapped them together then put some electrical tape around them. That worked fine.
