Bad Gas??

The other night I filled up my tank, I didn't realize how ****ty of a gas station I was at, but it was the only one around. Anyway I filled up and probably 5 - 10 minutes later I was gettin a ticking noise right around 4K rpm and above. I checked the oil, and the level is good. Oil is also clean (about 3500 miles since oil change, doin it this week) Im not real familiar w/ problems from bad gas, so I was wonderin if the gas can cause this noise. To be honest it sound like an oil tick, but thats not it.

Usually bad gas makes it so the car doesn't run at all. How much fuel was in the tank before you fliled it?

It's possible that bad gas could cause that, but it's likely something else. The tank is only like 10.4 gallons if I remember correctly, so you may just be suffering symptoms from having had air in the fuel lines or something to that effect. It can happen when you completely drain the tank. Happened to me in my sister's car a couple weeks ago.

Are you sure that the fuel tank is that small? The mirage has a 13.2 gallon tank and I would hope that Mitsu, in all its brilliance, wouldnt lessen the gas tank in a heavier , more powerful car.

Ticking is not usually a result of bad gas. Where is the ticking coming from?

I can verify that 1st gen Lancers rock 13.2 gallons.

And that the gas light comes on EARLY.

I swear to God my tank is like 11gal too. If I remember I'll double check, but it's unlikely there's a difference...unless the build dates are way off and they ran outta the cheapies.

The fuel light does come on early - at about 10-10.5 gallons. However, I gaurantee you that at least the 02-03 Lancers have a 13.2 gal tank and according to Mitsu's website, so do the second gen: http://www.mitsubishimotors.com/MMSA...p?t=mechanical

Scroll to the bottom: Tank = 13.2 Gallons.

Light or not I've driven well into the light and never put more than 10 gallons into my car. I'm not sayin' you're wrong, it's just that my experiences don't jive. So odd.

Wow, you seriously haven't put more than 10 gals? Yesterday I just put 11.5 Yeah, I guess maybe the lights all come on at different times...

Here are three of some of my gas receipts. That first one back in December I put almost 12 gallons.

My light comes on EXACTLY at the 1/4 tank mark (on the gauges). My old gauges used to have the light come on at the 1/16th(ish) area. Maybe my new gauges are from a lancer that has an 10-11 gallon tank and my car has a 13.2 gallon tank.

Damn mine doesn't come on until about 1/8th of a tank and I can still drive for days (short driving) on it.
