60mm tb... narrowing it down

OK, I've been working on the 60mm tb swap from the gsx eclipse and I've finally got the engine to idle correctly. The problem I'm having now is 2nd gear. I test drove it and it bogs as I hit the gas when I shift into 2nd. I'm thinking it might be the tps. I adjusted it to an extreme on one side and I think that might be the problem. But...... 1st gear is fine? whats the deal here? any suggestions. Does anyone know if the 1st gen tps sends out a different voltage signal compared to the 2nd gen eclpises tps? Hopefully one of you can help me out so I can see if I can get this thing to work and then we'll have another option on tb's.

The 1G and 2G TPSs are the same signal-wise, except for the lack of a closed throttle switch in the 1G.

Which one are you using?

If you're using the 1G and the Lancer has the 4pin TPS plug, without wiring the closed throttle switch, you could be running hella rich when you lift to shift which would result in bogging. Wiring the switch also makes the idle problem go away easily without messing with the TPS setting.

If the Lancer has a 3pin TPS, then I don't know what's going on.

it has a 3 pin harness. there's no throttle closed switch on our TB. i've fought trying to make this mod works, but now it's on hold.

did you switch AIC housings and motor? it seems that the tps voltage works in the correct range and since it doesn't need any kind of sensor to tell the ecu the throttle closed, then rewiring a 1g tps should be fine. since i couldn't get it to idle right, i scrapped the idea until i have some free time and rebuild my air compressor.

keep trying! i've got mine to work after 6 months. also make sure your not leaking air. and your hoses are correct. i tried to bypass the coolent line but that messes with my idle so i put it back on. a 2g eclipse tps might work for you guys as it works for us mirage folks

Did any of you mirage guys position your tps towards the middle or did you turn it towards either end? Also the coolant bypass is interesting. I bypassed mine and the stock tb works fine like that. I just dont understand how that would affect idle.

My TPS is towards the middle and I have not had any idle problems for what seems like forever. To be quite honest, I have forgot the details of what I have done but I could bet on your life, that it is towards the middle. My coolant to TB has also been bypassed for years, knock on wood, and no ill effects.

Then again, I live in FL.

As I understand it the only "danger" in bypassing the coolant to the TB is that it could theoretically heat and expand the butterfly, causing it to stick. The danger seems like an extremely unlikely occurance to me unless you're redlining your car in neutral for extended period.

Allegedly, it keeps the TB from freezing over in winter. I dont know what this thing people call winter is, so I cannot vouch for that.

My winters have always been warm .....

Oh right...I forgot about winter. Yeah, that'd definitely help up here. I forgot coolant both warms and cools.
