how are the gains?? install seems easy enough but how are the gains!!!
in relation to the piggy back note, get an safc/emanage. both are better than the piggy back and both can be tuned for your specific car. from expirence the safc works well but the emanage offers a lot more things to change and mess with. if you get one get the emanage and have it dyno tuned. you will spend the same as if you got the piggy back in the first place, only difference is that you will have more hp than the piggy back would have gave you. oh yeah, no need to run 91 octane!!!!

you aren't using tone with me, are you?! I'll get to gains when I get the time. Last night on the way home from my brother's house (a 10 minute drive) I saw no less than 10 cops with someone pulled over - I'm not about to test those waters

no, it won't work. When you throw a CEL the ECU goes closed loop which means it won't accept any outside inputs.

pb i thought didnt give outside input... they just change the signals coming in... also i dont see how rrm could sell their stage 2 if that is true... b/c you have to have some sort of pb(theres or somone elses) and a free flowing exhaust... if you have a free flowing exhaust it should trip the cel... in turn it would make their pb useless to tune with that they sell with the stage 2.

edit: one of the best diy ive seen on the site... very nice job you should do more of these

Thanks!

My experience with my emanage (with the whole host of harnesses) has been that once a CEL comes on I can't make any change. For example: Under normal conditions, at idle, if I set the zero throttle input to be -40, the car will immediately die. Reset to, say -30, start the car and it hesitates, but it will keep going. With a CEL, I can set the zero throttle input to -50 and nothing will happen. With a CEL, if I run the map that I normally do, the performance goes to crap, relatively speaking.
I don't know what RRM does with their PBs or how they do what they do. That's something I'd ask them about directly (PM Rock, he's pretty good about responding). I'd run a search first, though.

it really matters what CEL code comes up. the 2nd o2 CEL that pops up with a test pipe doesn't affect the car. something like a broken EGR valve or missing gas cap will make the car run overly rich to either avoid NoX while driving on load or from running lean. having the gas cap off reduces fuel pressure by about 3-4 psi, so that's pretty significant. it matters what the CEL is.

great write up! someone needs to tell hobie bout this so he can put it in the "how to" forum. but go back and edit the posts so you can put those attachment links inside IMG tags so it'll display the picture instead of the links. great job. i likes

I just got my RRM Intake Manifold installed this past weekend aswell. Power gains aren't that noticeble to me, bit more throttle response. Call me crazy but I think I got more power from my AEM CAI... atleast thats what it feels like

your not crazy, i said the same thing about my IM/TB upgrade vs. my injen sri upgrade. i think for me its because the IM/TB and fuel rail were after intake, headers, and exhaust upgrades, so perhaps we are experiencing diminishing returns

sorry for OT again: my header(and anyone elses for that matter) throws a code for the 2nd o2 sensor, so that shouldn't cause any problems?

btw, engineerboy, i don't think you mentioned yet who did the porting for ya? DIY job?

I think I mentioned that I did it . . . . but there ya go, I did it. Another 100% DIY project

FWIW the eManage wasn't responding when my only CEL was the CEL for the 2nd O2 sensor..... maybe mine's defective

I second that. The RPW header/downpipe never threw a CEL for the 2+ years I had it installed in my car.

As for the emanage and CEL, I agree with engineerboy that if you're in closed loop (and I thought throwing a CEL from the 1st o2 sensor from a header removal) your car goes into protection mode (read: runs pig rich) and throws all tuning out the window. Now, as far as what o2 sensor trips when you remove the header (I would think it's the 1st and not the 2nd), that would determine whether you're truly running in closed loop. Whenever I've had a CEL from either o2 sensor, it pretty much disabled anything I can do with the emanage like engineerboy mentioned. How RRM can avoid this with their piggyback is also a mystery to me.

what codes caused your emanage to not work?

if you remove the first cat due to a header, you'll get a cat inefficiency code. no performance downside since it has nothing to do with your main second cat. there are also no checks for your second cat so you shouldn't get a code for getting a test pipe either.

if you don't install the first o2 sensor cuz your header doesn't have a bung for it or have a gasket leak at the exhaust manifold to head, or damage it, you'll get a 1st o2 sensor code. you won't get a 1st o2 sensor code for removing your first cat because it won't affect your first o2 since your first cat is after the sensor and not before. this will give you a rich safety mode since the 1st o2 sensor is important and the one that your ecu mainly uses.

if you install a test pipe, hell, i dunno why it would throw a code. but it may give you a second o2 sensor code if you try to install a MIL eliminator type thing or if you damage it during the install. this might put you into safety mode cuz it may believe your 1st o2 isn't working right. dunno for sure.

i have a rpw header too. especially since i got my datalogger in Jan, i haven't had a code since.
