Thread creator needs to request it be put there, and there's only one person in charge of it now I believe. Difficult task keeping up with everything.

Stupid rules

I guess I can not be lazy and search "intake manifold install" each time I want to read this thread.

Nice I finally found this thread! Once I get a new TB (not quite sure what i want yet, either a bored stocker or an Eclipse TB) and bore out the plenum opening, I'll be installing my ported IM. I just finished reading a DIY porting guide and I'm thinking it shouldn't be too bad to port the plenum opening out to 60mm. eBoy - you think my variable speed dremmel will work fine?

Engineerboy congrats on the gains.
Can someone post the link on porting or pm it to me. I too am very interested in this topic.
OT: I'm throwing the CEL with a testpipe and RRM header. Is greenpsycho right, we can still receive outside inputs, and therefore, no affect on performance overall?

One more thing...I heard people offset their CEL by adding a bored TB. Can someone verify this?
Sorry for being offtopic.

Here is the best way to fix the CEL - https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...ad.php?t=99137
I did that fix 6 months ago and still no CEL

As for the DIY porting guide - http://www.sa-motorsports.com/diyport.shtm
It was written mainly for porting a head, but the guide for the intake ports and intake manifold gasket matching are basically exactly how to do it for our own. Porting is porting. I'll be porting this weekend if not earlier

It really is easy to port it out. Just get some WD40 to reduce the aluminium melting on the dremel bit and have the gasket for the TB you are using and make an outline and port away.

If you are taking the manifold off, make sure you get all the metal bits out of the IM before you reinstall it. If you are leaving it on, stuff a rag in the IM and have a hand vac handy to vacuum all the bits.

I did mine back in my "clueless" learning phase and any idiot can do it, really.

So all you have to do is port out the plenum to approximately 60mm? You don't have to use some pro technique to get up all in the manifold? Just asking because I am thinking about doing this with my dremel.

No pro technique required. Of course I am talking of the 4G93 manifold; unknown on the 4G94. There was just a lip that was the 50mm of the stock TPB. I just opened that lip, pretty much as far as it could go, to about 60 mm. Just make sure you dont get any metal into the engine.

this may be an odd question: should i be worried about the IM bolts being rusted on like the stock exhaust manifold was? i'll be changing my IM in about a week and a half. should i be using that pentrating oil on those or will i be ok without it?

There's a lot less heat on that side of the motor since there's no exhaust flow nearby. They're hard to reach, but they really don't rust nearly as much.

If they are, get some PB Blaster if you foresee problems, but elbow grease should see you through.

that is a very good point that i should have thought of. thanks for steering me in the right direction. i've got some of that nut loosener/pentrating oil laying around from changing out the headers...maybe i'll spray the IM bolts the night before just to make things easier and save any time incase the scenario might arise. thanks again.
