Engine problems..need specs HELP
Engine problems..need specs HELP
Well guys, i believe the time has finally arrive where the Lancer just can't take no more abuse. I believe something is drastically wrong with my pistons. Most probably from the time I was stupid about turbo's and was running an 18:1 air/fuel ratio.
From what I can see down the spark plug holes seems to be 3 small holes in my #1 and #4 pistons. didn't really look at #2 and #3 cuz i was mad lol. they arn't really hole but looks like nicks or chips...actually i don't kno what it is. #4 spark plug ahs a few small metal fileings on it. maybe sucked in some from a rough edge somewhere along the IC piping.
My engine idles fine though. but when i start to go it seems like it shuts off and loses all power. then turns back on...then off..but when i get the RPM's up and floor it, it has full power. i posted about this before, but no one seems to have exprienced this.
any professional tuners here that have witnessed this before?????
Also another question i have for you people ( ROCK I e-mailed you about this) is i need all the specs on the 4G94's pistons and rods to get custom ones made. like everything from stroke length bore size, to piston pin sizes. all this info is needed to have this stuff made.
example if what i need is here:
http://www.rosspistons.com/custom/fourcylinder.php3
or: http://www.jepistons.com/pdf/customp...-orderform.pdf
THANK YOU for your help...this will be the start of the fastest OZ Lancer.....heheheh.....or jus a bullet proof motor.

Rob should be able to help you out on the pistons. JE already has a set up for them so you could even talk directly to their rep. As for the problems you are having... Sound like you may have either broken a few rings or smashed the crown of the piston down which is clamping the top ring tight. Do a compression check and pressure drop check to see what is going on and let me know what your results are. Get ready for some bad news though as metal shavings on you plugs means detonation has happened. With an 18:1 you where so lean this probably was the cause.
well wouldn't the idle be affected if anything was wrong with the pistons. i started it today and it was idleing fine...no shaking of the motor. i even took it around the block and it seemed fine. damn thing is just playin games with me. waiting till i'm far away from my house then it will blow up.
the metal shavings i believe are from a rough edge where the blow off valve piece is welded on to the IC pipe. also maybe my MAS got wet cuz it was raining hard last night. just throwing thoughts out...i'll buy a compression tester tomorrow and check that out tho.

After you corrected the fuel did you change spark plugs or even check them out?? Possibility the damage was there then the boost just finished it off over time. Engines are very funny in that way. She may sound great, run great and feel great but have problems just waiting to happen. A little more boost, a little crappier fuel, maybe even something simple like a vacuum leak. All these things could have been the button that was waiting to be pushed. Best thing to do is a compression and blow by check. See where you stand. If something is wrong or if you think there may still be a problem take the head off and see. A few $$$ now might save you a lot later. Hate to see you keep going an break a rod, throw a bearing, or score a cylinder just because everything seems alright at the moment. If it messed up there was a reason. It just didn't go away. Trust me on that. Ask Rob if you don't believe me

well at least your car starts! lol mine has been just sitting there, unused
im still looking for pistons too, i tested the engine with a comp tester #1-0 #2-80 #3-120 #4-20 that was my engine, i keep tellng my self when i get it running it will be 10x better than it ever was! let me know what you find out.

is it like a hesitation? is there any misfire codes? if you compression is fine than i would turn to your fuel management. with my car, i used to have a small hesitation under normal driving conditions around 2k. kinda like a hick up. this was caused by my fuel pressure being too high. so i turned down the FPR and the hesitation was smaller. but also my afr was not tuned properly. do you have larger injectors? cause the combo of better fuel pump and larger injectors, that could be a cause.
but i wouldnt worry if your compression is fine. believe me, if you had damage your car would run like **** at idle.
FYI...TURN DOWN THE BOOST....i mean geeeezzz the EVO runs 19

yes its like a hesitation...but last week is was REALLY bad...i think its cuz my FPR may have gotten a leak in the vaccuum hose and was causing it to have really high fuel pressure...i'm going t full stand alone fuel...jus soo much better.
