RPW Cam shaft and Cam Gear ARRIVED!!
not to be a dick, but.... if i had gotten this cam and cam gear over a month ago it would have already been in my car for at least 3 weeks, i don't know all the ins and outs to change cams, but i would have been able to find that info by now and have done the install. i also can't believe that your the only one thats bought one of these damn cams... i plan on getting the stage 2, but i can't afford everything else i need to go with it right now. at this rate i'll have saved up, ordered, recieved, and installed all of it before you do. sorry to be a hater but its just the way i feel, but knowing my luck there is some really good reason you haven't done it yet and i'll feel like an ******* as soon as you tell me. oh well

well, if you really want to know......
RPW didn't tap the cam long enough...need to get that done.
No instructions....
One and only one mark on the cam gear TDC.....
Four shops, 2 highly reputable, not wanting to touch it...
finding someone who would do it, but wanted to charge $500...thats more that it costs for the damn thing!!!....
Mitsu part required to do the swap (as it says if shop manual), I don't have that (shop manual) or the part number for the wrench...
There are more if you really want to hear them, PM me. I'm not the *****ing type.

i talked to vision about the 2nd stage cam and they only have one. It is on sale because it needs to be machined before installing. I'll think I'll hold off for a long while until rpm works out the bugs and can produce a cam that is ready to go.
I still wish you luck and am anxiously awaiting results.
Ive seriously been thinking about spending a lot of money on an RPW n/a setup. I wouldnt mind either mitisman or someone from vision responding as to why RPW is sending over unfinished cams.
well, sorry to hear all the problems your having.... i hope it all works out for the best.
why would they bother trying to sell a cam that needs to be machined? i wouldn't spend $330 on a cam that i would have to get machined (which i'm sure wouldn't be cheap either) and then have it not work properly, and then RPW will just blame the machinist i took it to. i think i'm just gonna leave my lancer engine in stock trim, save myself some money and buy a real car, and keep the lancer for daily driving.

For some reason even though I responded to this forum previously my emals don't seem to come through to me - anyway
With the cams there is not a major problem with the cams the fix was simple and has since been rectified.
To state it simply the cam manafacturer when he made the cams drilled the cams the full length of 30+mm but only tapped them around 25mm deep instead of say 25.4mm as per standard mitsubishi. The result was that the last batch (And this is limited to the last batch which was a total fo around 5 camshafts) the bolt would tighten but not enough to lock the cam pulley on tight.
This has since been fixed on all cams here and there were a total of two camshafts in the USA that had to be either
(A) Re tapped another 0.4mm (Total of around 3 threads)
(B) Fitted with a 1mm washer between the bolt and cam pulley
Either way rectified the problem. The cusomer in the USA (Can't remember your name sorry) opted to get the cam retapped rather than a washer which was his choice and I have no objection to that. Total time to correct thread tapping - around 10 minutes with a tap.
As to fitment of the camshafts - like everyone else we find this unbeleivable how no shop wants to fit them. We have been selling cams to the Mirage guy's for years and none of them have ever had a problem with our camshafts in fitting them up.
There is no special tool needed honestly, we don't have any special Mitsubishi tool. Maybe because we work on them all day we have learn't to work around them but I really do not think you need to buy a special tool.
Anyway I hope this clears up everyones questions - to clarify there is no problems associated with the camshafts and we have since gone back to our manafacturer and we will also check all future camshafts ourselves before sending them out to ensure the tapped length is correct.
Feel free to ask any questions guy's I will try my best to answer them.

It's cool...RPW is doing a fine job....They told me about the issue and it has been fixed. Only person that will do it no questions is the dealer...they used to suck in the service dept., so I think I'll drive down there and check out the shop first and talk to the master techs. All of my delay came from not knowing how our cam is removed and how to set the cam gear. Just got an Apexi II safc to help out a bit with tuning....we will see...I'm going to go to the dealer tomorrow and think about the install.

OK it's installed!!!!! Dealer did it no problem (cost me $440 though!!) Top end it the greatest improvement....you can hear the difference in the new cam too...exhaust sounds different. I waiting on my afc now so I can add a little fuel to idle becuase this cam tends to "surge" at idle. Also I'm running rich at 3.5K and beyond, so I'll need to thin that out. Really awesome when merging onto the freeway though....sweet!!!! Engine is running a bit hotter too. OVerall, I'd reccommend this as a really good mod for anyone going NA. I think stage 2 will kill too much low end though...it would be interesting to hear about that. If you're into 1/4 times and thats all you want to do, don't expect this cam to zip you off the line...it's mostly top end power it's adding. PM me if you have any questions about it.
Yes congrats. You have definitely got the most patience in the face of adversity that I have ever seen.
I'm interested in the 1/4 mile effect. It's gotta do something for us.

Im in SD... may be easier for me to walk you thru it on the phone. Then you get it done early and have the pride of doing it yourself.
