Low dB High Flow Exhaust

I know there are a crapload of exhaust threads on here... but I'm hoping that this is a different enough to warrant a new thread. But Mods... feel free to kick it off to the side if need be. (But I'm promising a recording within the next week!!)

So anyway...

I know there are a lot of people looking for high performance exhaust systems that are also pretty quiet and deep pitched. I am.. well was one of those people too :-)

I just had this custom system installed. I am way passed impressed with the tone and feel of the system. I wanted something that you could hear, but wasn't ricey, or obnoxious in any way.. and the lower the pitch the better. This didn't disappoint. The system can not be heard inside the car when idling or heard distinctly apart from the engine at anything above 3000 rpms. Has an incredibly deep tone around 1200 rpms that can be heard clear. Overall it has a very solid smooth tone that I was very pleased with. I'll put up a recording of it as soon as I get my hands on my buddies digital video camera and I can pull the sound from it.

System: Cat Back 2.25" piping, Magnaflow 4"round X 14" straight through resonator, Magnaflow 4"x9"x19" straigh through muffler, magnaflow stainless tip.

In the meantime.. here are some pics!

Pic of the Resonator itself

These exhaust guys were absolutely fantastic... you can tell they care.. making sure every single thing is lined up and even... and even making sure the Magnaflow was just right on the side of the resonator...

Is the exhaust silenced or just normally quiet and muffled? I'm assuming it's fiberglass filling?

EDIT: I meant "Is the muffler silenced". Reading credit reports and posting to car forums makes for some bad posts sometimes.

The Magnaflows have the fibergalss batting in the muffler body. You can in the muffler and see clear out the other side and all you see is the tube going through with the perforation.

I'd say at times you can just barely tell the exhaust is on there because it matches pitch and so forth to about the way the engine sounds... but under heavy load and in the lower rpms it has a nice deep smooth growl. It sounds NOTHING like that RRM or RMR exhaust that you could watch the video of that was on this board for a while (the links seem to be a bit broken now)

My sad descriptions probably don't do it justice.. I'll figure out a way to record the sound as soon as I can and get it posted on the board.

EDIT: I'm not totally sure what you are asking with regrads to the muffler... it is a muffler designed to silence the sound.. but it is straight through so it isn't like a baffled muffler or even the two tube turbos... it is just flat out a 2.25" pipe running right through it with a little perforation to allow the exhaust to escape into the body some and cut down on sound. The resonator is the exact same setup... so I essentially have two mufflers in a row.

Some mufflers come with (optional?) silences that you insert into the exhaust tip. So far as I know Magnaflow doesn't use them (generally speaking), but I was curious because you mentioned how quiet it was and I hadn't seen any pics that lemme see inside the tip for myself.

The OBX B-5 that i have slapped on my car comes with the removable silencer. Either way, its still kinda quiet when the car idles, but i assume thats something that its true with most of the systems out there.

Magnaflow does make a silencer that you can insert into the tips... but hell with that crap! that defeats the purpose of a high flow exhaust system... here is about the first 8" or so looking in to my muffler.

from tip to flange and all installed it was 328 dollars for the whole thing...

I could have probably saved some if I had bought some of the mufflers online... but I'd rather see the local guy make more money... so I did it that way... but still in comparison to the other exhausts out there like the Greddy and stuf.... that was a decent savings.

The resonator cost me 80 bucks at the shop but is available in the aluminized online at shop.store.yahoo.com/exhaustpros/index.html

for 50.65 or in stainless for 76.48 which was about the best I found anywhere.

I'll have video(s)/sound by Wednesday for you guys it looks like.

just to edit your post, Magnaflow DOES NOT USE FIBERGLASS IN ANY OF THERE PRODUCTS...sorry i read that and I had to correct you. I have been in close relations with Magnaflow for a long time and they pride themselves in not using fiberglass to fill there mufflers. They use a different material that doesnt heat up and blow out of the muffler after a month of use like all the other muffler companies use....
