bottom end (rods, pistons, etc.)

I'm wanting to twist about 8k-9k rpm. I've looked at ARP's site for bolts, and nothing, and I can't find anything for H-beam rods or forged pistons or a steel crank. Where does everyone get this stuff for their 4g94?

You can use the head bolts designed for another car, I don't remember which. Forged pistons are available everywhere, RRM has some, RPW has some and Wiseco makes some. For rods Pauter makes a set. I would be very surprised if you can get anywhere close to 8000-9000 RPM, you'd be lucky to hit 7000 and still have a motor left even after reinforcing the block. I don't know of any lancers turning out revs like that, even fully built (ie. race car) ones.

If a little Honda civic can do it, why can't a Lancer? But with the bottom end tightened up, it should hold with the pro arp bolts though...if i got rid of my governor i could easily go 7k rpms with the stock motor.

Well firstly, hondas are designed to be high revving, lancers are not. We do not have a very strong motor as evident by our inability to run high boost levels. Hondas on the other hand can run quite nice amounts of boost easily. 7k may be within reach, but 8k to 9k I would be highly doubtful of.

the head studs that match up for the lancer are off of a celica. you can find the part number on the boards if you search; i'm positive i read it somewhere on here. if you wanted to stud the girdle as well you could; just send ARP an OEM bolt and they'll find a stud that matches.

as for hitting a 8-9k rev mark; my question is why? if you look at dyno's of the 4g94 both HP and TRQ drop off durastically right around 5,800 rpms. i understand that building the block would allow you to increase powerband and such but don't forget a couple things:

1.) you can only push an engine so far. eventually you will grenade something; if you don't do that, you'll start melting stuff.
2.) you'll need to really get a good head job. port & polish, minimum stage II valve springs, possible upgraded valves (which we don't have yet for our cars), and to be honest i don't think our lifters and push rods would hold up to it.
3.) the 4g94 is not a civic....most of the civics you see rev'n that high have done some sort of engine swap; in most cases a Spoon engine.

there are many good reason's why what you are talking about would be deemed ridiculous on a 4g94 but i don't want to be 'that guy' who puts the idea in the mud. if you want to build the motor up to rev that high; go for it. if you do, i would like to see some numbers when you are done.

pistons and rods can be found through these companies and distributors--> RPW, RRM, JE, Pauter, Wiseco

mark

You will also need a new fuel map that would go all the way to 9k rpm.

Dumb question - why do people buy a car and try to make it like another car? If you wanted a car that'll spin 9k, why didn't you buy one?

I understand the whole "let's add a turbo to my slow car" idea, but I'll never get the "I bought a but wanted Honda characteristics, how do I change it?" mentality...

Agree with Blacksheep, if you want a high revving machine, buy a honda, it'll do it better, safer, and a lot cheaper.
