Lancer & Caliber share engine?

Are the engines the same? If so would the internal parts be the same? and could we be looking forward for more aftermarket parts from the srt-4 in out lancers?

Maybe not relevant, but I drove a Calibre for a week while my Evo was in the shop getting de-deered.

I have to say without a shadow of doubt it is the worse car I have driven in 15+ years of driving.

- Nightmare killer blind spots (it has gun slit windows and the biggest c-pillar I have ever seen, pulling out of a parking spot was a crap shoot, as you couldn't see anything of where you were going - I took to hooting my horn and then reversing slowly listening for the shouts or horn beeps)
- Dreadful interior (like it came out of a cereal box)
- Almost zero acceleration (I actually came to the conclusion that the only difference between normal driving and mashing the gas to the floor was the sound level - the engine would squeal even louder, but wouldn't go any faster.
- Crazy rolly boat like handling.

Different engines. The Caliber is using a 1.8L and 2.4L engine. SRT-4 will be a turbo 2.4L.

It's the Mitsubishi World engine in the Caliber... Here in Canda we have the 1.8L, 2.0L and the 2.4L I think they use this engine in some hiunday car too.

I just check and the 4B11 we will found in the new Lancer is the same engine number as the Caliber 4B11. Probably we will have some performance parts that we can share. (That's maybe help to have more performance parts on the market.)

I think with the whole GEMA thing between Mitsu and the other car companies, they're going to share the same basic motor but with their own little customizations.

I don't think the Caliber has MIVEC, either. :P

And honestly, if the new Lancer does perform like a caliber, I'd be disappointed.

Just in case any of your are interested.

They don't call it Mivec on the Caliber... They call it VVT. (Variable valve timing or something like that).

You mean, like Toyota's VVT?

If that's the case, then I suppose I'll have to test drive it myself soon as it comes out.

I don't want another slouch for my next car, ya know? :/

When two companies share engines, they put their own twists on it to perform differently. And I believe every make has its own Variable valve timing thing, VTEC, MIVEC, VVT, etc.

Toyota call it VVT-I, it's just a name for Variable Valve Timing like Drucea said. (Mivec, Vtec, VVT-I)

My girl friend have a Toyota Corola S 2001, my car make a lot more power than her car.

Does anyone know if the 4B11 has full MIVEC (adjusts both timing and valve lift, similar to the 4G69) or the partial MIVEC that the Evo 9 got (only adjusts timing)?

No idea, but apparently the Lancer has an 1/4 mile ET of 15 seconds and some change stock. dunno what trim though, but i read it in a magazine.

Sounds good; better than the 18s on the ES. lol

That sounds about right. Stock Ralliart is capable of 15-15.2 stock, with 10 more HP and a couple hundred fewer pounds, so I'd imagine the new Lancer can hit around 15.7-15.9.

It controls both timing and valve lift, similar to the 4G69.
