In our testing, we would guess it could actually pull off a high 14. Has good high end pull.

You can see the mivec control quite obviously on the dyno chart which we will have posted in our review, although i am not sure how it functions.

That's good to know. I think stock Integra GSR's run 14s with the B18 in them.

and if the MIVEC is as effective as VTEC is for all those honda boys, then it looks like mitsu will be putting up some major competition, especially on the street tuning level.

ive seen vvt on a few of the newer toyotas. is that the replacement for TVIS from the old rollas and such? if so then the new vvt being similar to the new mivec should be a pretty good competition factor, seeing as the tvis is almost identical in how it works in relation to vtech for honda

is this a wet dream or the 4B11 it will be the same engine as the 4B11T coming in the ralli and the evoX? anyone knows something about this? of course i dont mean the same same engine, but what about the same internals? turbo kits will perform reeeeally good if this is true.

I attended the official 08 Mitsu Lancer training today in Chicago, and here's what I found out.

The 4B11 in the new Lancer is not the same as the caliber/hyundai crap. The engine block, which is stamped 4B11, is made in Detroit under a joint operation between the three companies. Just the BLOCK ONLY. From there the blocks are shipped to Japan, everything else on/in the engine is built and assembled by Mitsu, for Mitsu. It works the same way for the Caliber and Hyundai products. They all recieve a blank block and finish it their own way. So, the block and name 4B11 is the only major thing they all share.

I also asked about the MIVEC system in the 4B, and they told me that both cams have timing advances on them, but no multiple lobe setups.

I was told all of this by Official MMNA reps today, so I will have to take their word for it.

PS: I'm new on here, but work for a Mitsu dealer, and will be happy to answer any other questions to the best of my ability.

A tech posted parts of the official Mitsubishi training videos for the 2008 Lancer on thegalantcenter.com.

http://www.thegalantcenter.net/forum...ic.php?t=55008

The training video makes it perfectly clear that the MIVEC on the 4B11 only controls timing on both intake and exhaust valves but no lift or duration whatsoever.

Hope this clears things up.

I own a Marine Blue Caliber R/T AWD and the frigin thing is great. I had an Evo VIII before this car and I miss the Evo and all but I am very satisfied with the Calibers performance and handling. (Family Vehicle) Also can't tell you how many comments I get when pumping gas on how nice it looks.....

Caliber & 08 Lancer

They definitely do not share the same engine. I checked autos.msn.com, the specs on the Caliber's base engine are 148 hp and 1.8 L displacement. The Lancer is 152 hp and 2.0 L for the same measurements. Torque is where you see the biggest difference - 125 lb-ft @5200 RPM for the Caliber and 146 lb-ft @ 4250 RPM for the Lancer. There are two bigger engine choices for the Caliber, the 2.0 L gets 158 hp but only 141 lb-ft of torque. The 2.4 L gets 172 hp and 165 lb-ft of torque. Gas mileage is difficult to compare because the Lancer's is based on the new testing but if you go by what reviews have listed for testing by 07 specs it's a dead heat for mileage.

I've also driven both - the Caliber (2.0 L w/ CVT) as a rental, the Lancer (GTS w/ CVT) as a test drive prior to buying. If what you want is a commuter car, the Caliber would be sufficient - it doesn't have great acceleration (forget trying to pass quickly) and the handling takes a little getting used to but it's not terrible. It is incredibly small on the inside; 4 people fit when we went out to dinner but 5 was very tight. The Lancer, on the other hand, is a far more spirited car (in comparison) and a lot more fun to drive. It's interesting because the Lancer GTS is heavier than the Caliber, so you can't blame it on the weight of the car.

I certainly wouldn't say the Caliber is ugly, just not to my taste. The driving and styling of the new Lancer are far more my style.

True they aren't exactly the same. Sharing the same engine would mean that both would be a 4B11. Of course the Dodge doesn't have MIVEC and Mitsu doesn't have what ever dodge is using to tune the car, so the numbers will be much different. I haven't seen the dodge engine but test drove it and it felt very sluggish and had a crazy huge dashboard.
