i dont think a metal tube intake would do any difference. have u looked at the intake? freakin lots of wires and those 3 plastic thingy going into the engine would have to be replace. i dont think any one would want to go through all the hassle. dont get my wrong, if something like that does come out itll be a huge improvement, hp wise.

Given the placement of the battery and the incredibly twisty path one would have to take (not to mention move the battery, which given some of the connections there may not be an option, or an easy one at least) I think a FWI is totally out. That leaves a ram air hood of some kind I guess, though for me I don't want the expense of a hood and futzing up a look I like already to get that benefit.

Questions on the CAI and exhaust kit: Is a ECU change needed? What gains are you seeing at the wheel and in the comp from that setup? Is a higher end kit being considered that will replace the TB connector and plastic hose for something a bit smoother (or is the hose ridge induced turbulance actually needed/beneficial)?
Thats is why I made the air dam scoop so it would feed more cool air in wright on top of the filter and there isnt any otyher choice for placement on this car so putting it there with the factory air dam plus my air dam should give it enough outside air to make it work great . As far as the plastic hose air turb I am not sure maybe ROCK can give u an idea on that one. RRM

With our setup you can leave your stock plastic air tube. As for placement, when car is moving it is not too hot. Remember this is an N/A motor and the only cat is under the car so there is not much radiating heat under the hood with the exhaust manifold virtually under the fire wall.

Gonna have to break out the thermal meter and check. But the manifolds are very much in the engine compartment on the left under a metal heatshield. Granted, the intake is not hovering directly over them, but radiant heat and restricted airflow in that area surely can't be ideal. I know it's the most logical place for a quick solution and moving the battery looks to be a PITA so I am not condemning the setup, just curious in general really.

As for the tube, I saw a vacume style take off and the air sensor only... any reason not to make a single tube setup with connectors? I know you see a lot of 'CAI' tube setups that are one long tube with one or two bends (the less bends and the less radical the bends the better of course, one bennie to this setup is one relatively gentle bend). Is it because the air sensor is just a insert/dipping kind and thus it does not screen and otherwise introduce turbulence like some sensors or is that really a tube MAF with screen or some other turbulence inducer and thus it can't be changed?

Very nice. How much hp gain did you get? Is there a significant difference between the stock and the new intake?

I also dig the red cover. How many coats of diamond star red (lol)?

Thanks OTTER! As far as intake making a diff YES it made a huge one throttle responce jumped up big time and u can feel the car pull alot more then when it did stock. Plus it sounds frick sweet as hell. HP gain I am not sure about but RRM will most likely be doing a dyno on this or may already have so ROCK maybe posting this on here or the new RRM 08 site! RRM

Is the Red engine cover something you added or is it stock on CA cars?
