Sounds nice and all, but the "stealth test pipe" still wouldn't pass an actual smog test, right? Out where I live, they sometimes set up random testing stations right in the middle of the road and randomly flag people over for smog tests (that's right, just like sobriety checkpoints... or is that just So Cali too?) Otherwise, that's a great idea and would probably pass any visual inspection by officers. I would, however, like to see about the first cat beiing combined with the second one, or moved down closer to it so I can run a header and stillbe legal in STS autocross.

So I am the new guy here at the board and I don't mean to sound like the new resident ******* here but I don't really understand why you guys want to remove the cat so badly? Are you really running that rich or running that high an octane you're about to blow your cat up? Or perhaps a ridiculously huge cam? Just how much extra power are we talking about here when you remove your catalytic converter? Do you have any idea how much pollution there is if you were to remove your cat? Is it worth the damage to your environment or the possible fine from the law enforcement agencies?

Sounds like someone works for the EPA. People on the boards her have estimated 8-10 for removing the cat. I myself have removed both, and though it may not be 8-10 horse it make a hell of a difference at the top end.

Pollution, well my car is pretty well dialed in for A/F so its not like I'm spewing rich exhaust all around town, just smells a bit. A few extra CO's instead of CO2's isnt going to kill anyone.

Fines? No emissions in MN, and a Greddy Evo exhaust muffles the noise enough that the cops don't hate on you. You almost have to ask for a ticket for that around here.

Nah, I don't work for the EPA or the government for that matter. I am not opposing the idea of removing the cat entirely as I understand that for some people it is necessary to do so otherwise they are just going to burn the cat anyway. Just that experience tells me that if your car sees that much track duty, chances are you have a towing vehicle, that or you know about your car and wrenching in general well enough you'd be able to take off your entire catback at the track and run open header for an event. And that if your car doesn't see much (if any) track duty then you really don't need to be removing/gutting your cat for the extra few top end horses and harm the environment. I don't know, maybe it's because I am Canadian and I care about nature more?

I know there are always exceptions to what I am saying here. I know there are true car enthusiasts running a turbo setup and is always feeding the car with 110 octane gas and a cat really hurts but I guess what I am saying is that in most cases removing the cat is really not necessary.

I am a frequent on another message board that is full of 16 year old ricer and believe me when they see a thread like this they will think "wow a piece of pipe for $70 and I get 8-10HP!" they are going to want to do it. I am just promoting awareness here, that's all.

All speculation by the way, but if a cat back nets 3-4hp and you compare the restrictiveness of the catalytic converters versus the restrictions on rest of the exhaust 8-10 hp is rather believable by removing them.

I got a test pipe, lucky if I got 1. And as for the header(removes first cat)maybee 2. With my catback and intake I probally totalled 6 or 7. the only difference you'll even notice is the intake, so don't waste your time or money on anything else. Just splurge and buy a turbo, thats what I'm saving for.
