Stealth Test pipe!?!?!?!

Tired of those nasty tickets for driving around with a test pipe on? Tired of having to take your car to the sniffer because the cop with the mirror saw you're running a test pipe? Tired of switching back and forth between test pipe and Cat when you go from track to street?

Here's a possible fix that some guys at my shop are working on:

Take the Lancer Catalytic Converter off the Lancer. Cut in half down the seems. Clean out all the assorted $%@$ in the Cat. Trim edges of Cat so the testpipe fits inside. Weld or bolt Cat back together and bolt onto exhaust.

If all goes well it will "appear" you have a catalytic converter, while you are actually running the test pipe through inside of it. In theory this should eliminate the possibility of a cop issuing you a ticket for running a car with no-cat.

I'll let you know how it goes.....

Interesting theory, but that "stealth" test pipe wont help us when the time comes to *shudders* SMOG TEST our car...

I would keep my CAT intact cuz when the time comes to smog test, I gotta put it back. With this modification I wont have a legal CAT to put back on.

But it'd be awesome if u can get ur hands on an extra CAT so that u can do this modification so u have a real CAT and a stealth CAT. Go for it dood!

Generally that is the idea.......keep your original cat for the smog test and then go to a junkyard or wreckers and find a ****ty busted up cat to go stealth with.

~PATENT PENDING~

Seriously though, how much would someone pay for this product if it was an RRM Test pipe with a Catalytic Converter shell around it?

Would people purchase this sort of thing to avoid tickets? or would people rather take chances. Hypothetically say I could manufacture these things: $69 Test pipe from RRM, a Catalytic Converter $xx and a few bucks for labour.

Would anyone want to buy one?

What kind of cops do you have around, that can look at your car going down the road and tell if you have a test pipe or a cat? SUPERTROOPERS. lol Lucky for me, we don't have smog tests in Fl.
Yeah it's pretty nice.

They don't look at your car while you're going down the road...they pull you over because you have an exhaust system or something...then they generally look around your car for anything that they can charge you with...NOS, Wheels inside your fenders, your car is too low, it's emitting heavy smoke, bald tires etc. Lately they've been getting mirrored poles like they have at the US/Canada border-crossing and looking under your car for holes in your exhaust pipes, disconnected cats or test pipes.

They're vicious up here (Greater Toronto Area) against anyone that street races or mods there cars. A few months ago they had this bill where they were going to ban modified cars altogether, but it never went through because it affected exotic cars, classic cars and hobbyists as well as infringed on your freedom of expression.

This stealth pipe would be one less ticket you'd recieve if a cop tries to really stick it to you.

Not a bad idea since the ticket for cutting your cat is $2500 here. Plus if they're asses they can impound your car.

Hmmm $2500 ticket / Possible impound or hypothetically speaking $100 for a stealth test pipe.

One of the worst ideas that people always seem to offer up. Gutting your cat is the wrong way of going about to free up exhaust flow. Might as well do what some hacks due and just jab it with a screwdriver.

EDIT: It appears I looked before I leap. Not a bad idea but might as well use the Buschur one...pre-built at least. http://www.importtuner.com/tech/0205...cer/index.html If the link don't work, looks like you'll just have to find it on 2NR's website directly.

Ya I got an old used Cat the other day from Hot Rod Scotts here in Toronto.

The key thing to making this work is finding a Cat about the same size so the Testpipe fits in it anyways here's whats done so far:

1) Cut cat open along seems

2) Took out that **** inside it (Blech I almost puked it stank)

3) Made measurements on the testpipe diameter and width and compared them to the size of the cat

4) Made a few rough cuts on the cat and placed the testpipe inside

5) Made a few more cleaner cuts and the Testpipe fit perfect

NEXT WEEK:

1) Cut a hole in the top of the Cat so the O2 sensor can be screwed into the testpipe as the Catshield stops it from doing this.

2) Drill holes in lips of cat so I can use screws to take it apart and put together.

3) Mount cat and see how it works.
