Ok i have 57k miles on the lancer and im starting to shop around for prices in the next few weeks. I gave Mitsu a call for a good laugh
. They said $399.99 for a timing belt change. How much did you guys pay to get yours done? I know ill find somewhere cheaper but just looking to see what everyone else payed. I dont know if i want to do it myself cause i have read about how much of a hassle it is.

If you have a decent amount of tools and a weekend to set aside (maybe a friend too), it shouldn't be a problem. You can do a T-belt, A/C & P/S belt, alt. belt, water pump, and new tensioner for amount $130 I believe. I purchased my parts from www.mr-auto-parts.com
Good luck!
Good luck!
Timing belts are pretty easy on these. Lots of room. Remove the right side motor mount and the drive belts, and you'll have unobstructed access to that whole front end of the engine. Set the engine to TDC by aligning the marks on the crank pulley. Remove the timing cover and crank pulley (Air tools a big +). Loosen the tensioner and pull the belt off. New belt goes on and button it up, and you're done!

Instead of starting a new thread ive got another question... I dont plan on keeping the car much longer and in 3k more miles ill be at 60k. I plan on get a STI in 6 months. How long can i go on the timing belt before it breaks? I dont want to spend close to 1k getting all this stuff replaced to turn around and sell the car. Ive read of people getting up to 80k and it hasent broke but i dont know if i want to take the chance of it breaking cause then ill be screwed real bad.

I would do the timing belt if I were you. If it snaps you'll be paying a lot more in repairs and when you go to sell it if they find out you haven't done it, they'll be wondering what else you haven't dealt with.
