this is a dumb question about 4g64 motors

** edit **
most people must not understand my question...

are all of the 4g64 motors the same?(galant/eclipse/stratus/outlander/and whatever else)

i have an automatic 02 lancer.. can u swap an automatic 06 outlander motor/trans into the lancer? (or do u need to swap out the trans, or is the outlander trans fine as is..)

**edit bump **

reason for asking. is (A) i need a new motor.. and (B) i have a gt2860rs turbo waiting for a new engine to put it on.

trying to figure out if this motor i have at disposal would be worth doing or would it need more custom work then i can do myself. (Example: if its the same as a galant or stratus 4g64, then i know all i need is 1 custom motor mount basically)

Well i dont know a whole lot on swapping the mitsu's motor and trans... but im sure there are certain mounts that will work and not work... and the linkage if its lengths and ends are different... there usually is a bit involved in swapping things in and out of cars......

cost of a turbo and install maybe cheaper than a motor swap in the long run. and prolly get more power. unless one could do all the work them self then it would prolly be worth it. a motor swap on this platform just seems like a lateral move at best. just my opinion.

Physically you would be fine to swap the automatic setup from an Outlander in. Everything would bolt right in. The engine in the 06 Outlander is the 4G69 just like the 06 Eclipses and the Lancer Ralliarts. The 4G69 engine is a direct drop in to replace the 4G94 Lancer engine. Since you would be keeping it automatic you would need the transmission ecu from that vehicle also.

I don't think he's going with a 4g69... He specifically said 4g64... I would think that the motors are the same, there may be small variations as far as how the head flows and oil...

He said 06 Outlander so I ran with it. But yes, all 4G64 motors are pretty much the same. I know certain ones have a different intake manifold and slight variations like that. But they are pretty much all the same.

ya that was a typo - i ment an outlander 4g64 not 4g69.. i guess thats 03-05.. so basically the motor out of the outlander would have the same setup and mounting brackets and everythign as a galant and all the other 4g64 motor setups.... (for the most part)

would i have to swap out my trans from the lancer. or would the outlander trans be fine? just wondering because i know from my buddies lancer we did the same swap on out of an eclipse to his lancer and the trans didnt work and we had to swap it out.

You'd be better off using your transmission with the Outlander bellhousing for the least amount of issues.

ok. that will set me a back a week or two. gunna go pickup that motor tomarrow i guess.

you think getting a 5speed transmission from a 03 lancer would be a good thing to just go ahead and swap out.. or to big of a hassel? (mind you, i live in alabama and just about everyone i know is a mechanic that could help me out)

got a guy asking 400 for a used 03 lancer.. and this motor would be turbod the same weekend (gt2860rs) going for like.. 3lbs of boost! untill i can get forged internals.

figured i could go ahead and swap to 5spd. or stick to auto and modifiy the auto trans to a quickshift clutchless or something else along those lines.

Converting your car to manual will only add time to the swap since you will have to add in the pedals, clutch master cylinder, clutch lines, shifter, etc. You could always swap to a 5-speed later on down the road. I depends on how much more time you're willing to add to your work this time around.

is there anything i could/should go ahead and upgrade on the lancer auto trans.. i mean outlander motor plus turbo i would be looking at a conservative 200hp. and within a few months alot more then that.. i mean.. what can that trans handel respectively before it needs to be upgraded.

You should be fine for now. There are turbo'd automatic Lancers on the boards running 200hp+. You might want to look at Level 10 to see if they make any upgrades for the Lancer auto trans.

ya thats good i guess.went and got the motor from my neighbor today. (250$) kinda happy about that, origonally told me he wanted alot more. he totaled his 03 outlander.. had less then 30k miles on it.

gunna order a few basic upgrade parts for it first (cam/camgear/pulleys/injectors/ t belts and everything else. make it like new. and my buddy is gunna p/p my intake mani.. not sure on the head cuz he said it would take him like 3 weeks to do, might let him do it since the parts will take that long to get here more then likely)
