Random CEL today...

Threw a random CEL today...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I haven't got it pulled (anywhere to get that done free in Winnipeg? NAPA doesn't, PartSource doesn't...) but the car still drives fine, idles ok, runs ok.

I just filled up, checked the gas cap, it's tight.

A couple days ago I was turning a corner, and there was a rut in the road, which conspired with the tire track snow ridge in the middle to catch and shatter my front bumper in the -45 weather we so dearly love here. Purely cosmetic damage, so I don't think it's that, but worth mentioning nonetheless. It's the passenger front corner that is broken.

I recently switched to mid-grade gas in preparation for the RRM Piggyback I got, but this is the 3rd tank i've had with that in.

On December 24th, I had the oil changed at Wal Mart, Pennzoil full synthetic 5w30. The bill says they put in 3.8 litres. On idle the engine makes that clicky-diesel engine sound, and when I look into the oil cap it doesn't look...terribly well oiled, but what do I know, I never looked inside there before, and it's not like I can look when the car is running. Also, it's still fairly (-20 or so) cold here, and the car typically has made that noise when it's cold out.

Ideas? I haven't a clue what it could be other than the oil, i'm guessing it would throw a CEL for low oil, right? The dipstick looks fine to me though. The coolant is fine, and at a good level. The engine temperature guage is right where it always is, it's not running hot either.

Yeah, I know but apparently oil levels won't throw a CEL i'm told now and I doubt you'd be lining up to change your own oil in -50 weather ha ha ha .

Let me get this straight.. you tried to check your oil by looking under the filler cap?

There's a dipstick, you know. If you're concerned about the oil level, check it with the dipstick. And if you have a code, get it read and post it on here.

Ha ha, no, I was just looking in the cap to see if the oil was getting up there as well.

The code is P0421 Warm Up Catalyst Efficiency below threshold, it's a recall or something of that nature, I the technical bulletin. Apparently I just have to take it in for some PCM tweak or something, that's what the tech said. I'm not really sure if I care or not...

^I had that error, but then it disappeared and didn't show up again. Random occurrence I guess.
