Question REVs too high?

not sure if im posting this under the right category... i've been having concerns about my revs being too high. on cars i've driven before, i could be at highway speeds (75-80mph) at around 3k-3.5k rpms, but on my lancer i hit 3k at around 55-60mph...just wondering if its just a difference in the gear ratios or what, and if anyone else has this going on. i haven't added any mods yet, its still all stock.

Please dont keep your car at 5K rpm. Its all gear ratio.

I have a friend with a 2004 nissan sentra spec-v with a 6 spd. His gear ratios are really low for fast acceleration but has the 6th gear for highway speeds. Our car is in between that. Not made for high speeds but also with decent gear ratios to make acceleration and fuel economy a plus!

Our car needs a 6th gear for hwy. 80 mph pulls a little under 4 k, which i feel is to high revved for cruising.

Your revs aren't too high. It's just geared differently than your other cars. Nothing is wrong.

there's nothing wrong with 'cruising' at 4k... now if 5th @ 80 had us at 6250RPM I might be a little concerned. This isn't a huge honkin' small block V8 under the hood. So, cruising @ 80 in 5th @ 1500RPM is not going to happen. Personally, I think the gearing is about right. The engine isn't really 'screaming' at me at freeway speeds (70+ MPH), and I don't have to down shift to make it up 5% grades... If I had to down shift to maintain speed on a 5% grade on the freeway, I'd really feel like I was driving a gutless econobox.

something funny did happen last night with my CVT, lol was turning left at a light, decided to make the turn fast, so i peeled out cause i knew the ground was just a tiny bit icy. well after i completed the turn and took my foot off the gas, the beast was still reving at 5500 RPM. Beleieve me it was 15 seconds of confusion, running thru my mind, ok what, what do you want, i am not in gear, what...

then the RPMs dropped like a rock back down to normal at 1200 - 1500 RPM

Strange, but maybe the peelling out confused it, fuzzy logic maybe?

something similar happened to me a week or 2 ago when it was really icy. It was really cool.

the X also sings at 4000rpm+ on 5th gear while at 75-80mph... it needs a sixth gear
