fabbed up a maf adapter and bought a cone airfilter at pep boys. Does the exact same thing as all the intakes out there for about $60. Pep boys has maf adapter kits and with a little playing you can make em work just like stock no problems at all.

Sounds great and definitely feel a little bit of a difference

are maf adapter kits hard to tamper with to make them work?

Definitely want K N.
Just recently found out about what a CAI means and does.
Well, since we have to wait more, in the mean time I´ll ask, whats SRI????

SRI (Short Ram Intake) will provide more low end power opposed to CAI (Cold Air Intake) which will provide high end power. Although both help the engine breathe, some might state that a SRI is to close to the engine and sucks in hot air but then others might say that CAI can suck in water(which can or cannot be true.) It's up to personal preference.

An SRI is a shorter intake that brings in ambient air from the engine compartment, while the CAI has a longer assembly that scoops air from behind the bottom front bumper, lower to the ground. Look at the pics of RRM's(SRI) and Injen's(CAI) Intakes, you'll see the difference.

Ive seen a few people say the Injen CAI(The only aftermarket CAI available, AFAIK) doesn't help any more(if any) than an SRI because of the much longer distance, and bends in the piping, the air has to travel through. Plus its harder to install, I believe you need to remove the entire front pumper to install the CAI correctly. Which could be a pain if you wanted to put the stock intake back on before you go in for service/warranty work.

All you need to do is remove the airbox, and the pipe that comes from the airbox into the throttle body on an SRI.

I really doubt K&N's SRI will differ much from any of the others because of the positioning of the battery. Yeah, its going to have a plastic heat shield, but so what? Once the entire compartment heats up, it doesn't matter. Unless you run without your hood on(Sarcasm ), the RRM heat shield doesn't do much either.

also! lol... if ur doing drag strip runs, ( i wouldnt assume u do that alot in ur lancer, who knows) but if u do i would suggest CAI considering an SRI will get slower if run continuously. the heat will just make u just as fast as a stock lancer if not slower. proven in one of the post on this forum that i read before.

thats not true. I ran my best 1/8 mile after about 4 runs before it. All I have in my GTS is the SRI. My best run before the SRI installed was 11s flat. With the SRI after about 4 runs I got down to 10.4s.

Well, it all depends on the environment, if you're out in the desert, obviously the car is going to get hot and stay hot, very quickly after a few runs. If you're up in Canada (I hear its always cold there ) then its going to take longer to heat up and will cool off more easily between runs. And yeah, I do take my Lancer up to the drag strip occasionally, but its just for fun and to hang out with some of my friends, I don't race for money... yet. Ill be seeing if that what thing slaker is talking about is true(in ohio weather) this friday.

Still waiting on the K&N SRI. Any updates?

In the meantime, I just bought the drop-in. Simply couldn't wait to start dropping cash into the new ride, hehe.
