CAI concerns?
My apologeez for misunderstanding you in the "power gains vs gas millage".
I have seen cars that tie the gas lines to the radiator pipes to get the fuel closer to its combustion temperature and have a better gas millage... Im guessing that it is similar to your theory with the hotter air and getting better gas millage. I am not a physics guru so you would know more than me in that realm...
I was just going after most people in this board go after, which is performance... i dont consider something that improve gas millage a performance upgrade, but thats just me... Coming from the forced induction world i can tell you that the more power you gain, the less miles to the gallon you get lol... thats why my vote will always go for whatever sucks the colder air into the intake... in this case, the CAI
Forgot they were both CVT... lol my bad.
I'd say we completely agree on nearly everything we've been debating about.. just slight misunderstandings here and there... haha And i think we'd both agree that if someone wants some real performance gains on the 08 lancer... they wouldn't be going for an SRI or a CAI... they'd be diggin up a turbo since any research in performance mods for the 08 would reveal that the NA mods do a pretty crappy job. I've never modded my car so I can't really say... but things like an SRI or CAI? mostly visual/audible gains. The performance gain is minimal.

haha wow too much to comment on in this thread already.
I would prefer this as well but found it to much work for what it was.
my tests were done with a V1 in a different town (different altitude) so I am not sure how altitude would affect ambient vs IAT temps although I cant think of anything.
I would like to do a test with this as well.
I am doing a 200hp all motor build.
One last thing to mention... RRM has come out with a V2 SRI. It has a heat shield... I'm curious as to how that intake will handle the heat... the temperatures cos gave are quite distinct. If the SRI V2 can get the air down to par with stock intake temps (or better), it would be a definate go for alot more people, including myself.

I don't think many will be going with an NA build so an SRI should be fine for most. But I definately agree with your claims on a CAI being better for a more advanced NA build.
The heat shield comments... again i definately agree. Just saying it'd be nice if it did make the SRI take in cooler air
Let's hope whoever gets it is able to get us some IAT numbers and such
I think everyone who has looked into the CAI would like that lol

yeah but imagine the NA possibilities if the evo head bolts directly to the GTS' 4B11 with no compression or clearance issues??? instant "port n polish" and lumpy cams.
THEN we'd see a whole new side of the GTS that people will be dying to have. turbos are cool no doubt, but there's NOTHING like a nicely tuned NA engine
