Post ~~ INJEN CAI vs. AEM CAI Dyno preview

I am happy to announce that after much consideration I have decided to break the intake testing down into their respective segments. AEM very open and willing to put their products to the test and have commited to the bout. Injen on the other hand have not commented on participation as yet via emails. More phone conversations will be pursued. If they do not submit hardware for the dyno day then it will be provided by an Authorized dealer.

This is great on the CAI front, but what is impressive still is that AEM maybe interested in offering up their EVO X hardware as well. But for the mean time and the sake of this review we will comment on the 4b11 regular lancer.

I have already talked about about this already in the first thread where it looked like a INTAKE free for all. https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=372613
Now before those of you get disapointed that its not going to happen, your right, it will. but under controlled testing methods. Doing a 4 intake shot out is very complicated with many different factors that can affect the results. Also it is best to have the intakes tested all at once in respect to their class. so the CAI now, the SRI's later and the drop ins last. I am glad to hear that Works is very eager as well to drop in to the frey

One thing that I didnt mention earlier was the sponsored support. At that time it was still in talks. But I am very proud and elated to announce the support of MOBIL 1. Both in the oils used for the event and other assistance. The dates are being finalized so bare with me as we select the final date and fall back date. Living in Canada you never know when a huge snow storm may swallow our test lancers and evos whole.

The test conditions will be ideal, with low levels with of humidity and a low / unchanging day temperature, the results at least on a environmental level should be fairly consistent. To further validate the experience real time readings will be taken from the on board OBD II computer in regards to the cars running conditions via a enhanced powertrain scan tool. In this case the AutoEnginuity scan tool. I will post sample data from my car so you guys can get an idea of what information you expect to see unlocked. I must say I have been very impressed with the hardware.

Finally the objective is to A) yes find out how much overall power is yielded from each intake. B) To also overlay and compare to the manufacturers original claims. note: The power claims from a PZEV vs. Fed spec lancer will affect the results so that will be taken into consideration. C) To make comments on installation difficulty, sound differences and anything else relevant. There may be more objectives added to the list, and as we speak to Mobil.

Critical information:
Dyno Day Set for January 16th or 17th. Fall back dates are on the 23rd and 24th.
Fourstarmotorsports using a DYNO DYNAMICS

Right now I am typing this post as I take a break from shoveling snow so I will add pictures sometime tonight

Cheers

Well done soul. I think I speak for all of us on these forums when I say thanks for all your hard work. This will really help people, including myself, make decisions about their cars.
Cheers.

That is awesome man. I wish I had half the connections in the automotive world that you do .
This went from a simple "lets test a few intakes on a dyno" to a full on test of oils(maybe?), all types of intakes, and PZEV vs FED. Especially now that you have the OBD II scan tool, which I thought was only available for the Evo X until now. You might as well see if WORKS will throw in one of their flashed ECU's into the mix .

Keep up the great work.

I wish, but my problem is, my girlfriend says I can only do this if I dont use any of my own money for this car stuff. lol she is just mad that I am making this work lol. But I have no "for profit plans" basically I am doing this for the community and more immediately for the local car club. Hopefully if everything goes well, this vendor status will be removed from this account and properly put on a different account with the name of the car club. I am not a real vendor since I am not selling anything for profit

In regards to the stuff from works? hopefully I will get the chance to review everything on the market, even that bad *** Works flash upgrade I hear good things about it thru and thru Hopefully I will get good co operation with all the companies I run into. In the mean time, I have to operate these reviews and evaluations and not go into the red. So this is where sponsors come in to play. Mobil is the first big name sponsor, and I hope there will be others.

Haha, I know man, I was just kidding about the Works Flash. You've got more than enough testing lined up already.
As for your GF, have you played the guilt card? If I remember correctly she's wrecked your poor Lancer at least once wasn't it ?

INJEN has not responded but I have verified that the email was recieved by a Jerry@INJEN.COM, of course you can ask questions to INJEN why they arent interested but hey, I am not telling you guys what to do lol

joking But in all seriousness. I am preparing some questions for my formal review. Questions for both INJEN and AEM will be sent next weekend.
Is there anyone who has any questions that is product specific that they want answered?

If it makes sense then I will pose that question and tag your name in there as the source

It is unknown if INJEN will respond to those questions but they will be submitted to them none the less.

Other updates are that I am meeting with MOBIL on Wednesday to discuss sponsorship of this event and see what else they can help with

Can't wait to see the numbers. I've been debating whether to get the AEM or injen cai, and I want to get the most for my money..

Does anyone have any sound clips or videos of the AEM installed?

Cant wait too, AEM has been very upfront and willing to put their money where their mouth is. They even Sent out a EVO X intake for us to try out on one of our EVO X cars that was at our Spring 2008 Dyno Day. "boostedGraphite's" EVO X. A few weeks ago there was a TTP AEM EVO X intake. The thread was raging and then got deleted I think. I am eager to get to the bottom of everything.

The EVO X box is sitting my my living room. The Lancer Intake is on the way. Personally I think the numbers given by AEM is very conservative, I wouldnt be surprised if it yields upwards of about 7 to 8 hp and 6 to 7 tq.

The INJEN one, I dont know, looking at their own dyno numbers, there seems to be something odd. I think what I will see is a lower HP number but a higher TQ number then what they stated.

I think off the top of my head the INJEN CAI yielded a 9hp gain and only 3TQ gain, I think it will balance out to be 7hp and 5 or 6tq. It could be an even split between the two intakes, its hard to say.

I am attempting to Source an Injen intake, The Currency Exchange rate different in Canada doesnt help. INJEN has still not responded. Feel free anyone if you have a contact in INJEN to let me know.

On monday I am getting the official green light from FourStar and the sponsor of this dyno event to shift the day to the 31st. THere are some rally events in the middle of this month which is making an all day dyno event on the weekend problematic. So the 31st is the final day.

And no, No response by INJEN, it has been delivered via email, but no response. The intake from them is being sourced elsewhere.

All intakes from AEM 2.0 Lancer CAI and EVO X Intake have been received
