Why no battery relocation kit

I thought for sure someone would have put a battery relocation kit together. Why Not?

costs too much..the weight savings for the front would be countered by the extra wiring for the battery.. also i believe you need to buy special batteries since it is inside the car... i think...

battery relocation isnt to save weight, its to DISTRIBUTE weight more evenly for better control

Your car has been out for 2 years, manufacturers/tuners are still working on the basics let alone mods that are only aimed at a handful of people. Relocating the battery has nothing to do with weight savings as pimpinfern pointed out, it's to remove weight from the front to aid in handling and to allow for intercooler pipes and things of that nature. You don't necessarily need a different kind of battery (a solid-state battery like Braille or Odyssey offer) but it certainly helps. The main things you need are wiring, a vented battery box and a kill switch. Whether it offers any advantages is debatable and unless you are turboing the car tomorrow and getting custom pipes made, you don't need it.

A battery wieghs what... about 20 - 25 lbs. Taking that weight off the front and moving to the back is a plus for distribution, i would think.

Getting it out of the way of possible IC and intake opens the door for more efficient designs as well.

Flossing through the car is easy as hell. I know, I installed a rear view camera myself.

If there was a kit out there, I would do it.

It's not enough to notice, 20 lbs is basically the spare tire or a full tank of washer fluid.

I'd rather get a mini battery. I have the oddysey mini battery, I think it's the same one that buschur racing uses. It's small enough and gave me room for intercooler piping.

Some tracks don't allow batteries in the trunk also, if you decide to track your car

i think all tracks allow it, it is just that they REQUIRE you to install a battery shutoff switch that is accessabe from the cabin of the car. i dont ever remember hearong of someone not being able to run based only on the fact the battery is in the rear...i am sure it had to do with the shutoff switch.

There are battery relocation kits out there. Stm Sells a kit with all the wiring and breakers for a good price. The only thing it does not include is a tray. But is you are crafty you can figure out how to use the stock tray in the trunk with the stock tie down.

As for the battery being in the car....The only thing you need is a sealed or solid core battery.

Plus mini batteries tend not to hold up to well in the cold.

I'm pretty sure some tracks won't allow it unless you do a damn good job on it. Quite a few require that you have a kill switch that is accessible from outside the car in case of a fire or accident (what good is a kill switch that's inside?).

Tracks don't care where the battery is for daily driver/track day cars. Miata batteries...and Evo X batteries, too...are in the trunk (along with many other cars), so having a battery in the trunk isn't an issue. It really only becomes an issue when you're racing in a class that may not allow battery relocation or if the battery itself is not properly boxed and/or secured in the cases where it is located in the trunk or cabin.

As far as a relocation kit goes for the Lancer; our car is so damn front heavy I really can't see moving the battery rearwards making that big an impact on performance. It would free up a fair amount of space under the hood, though...can't argue that.

If they came from the factory with the battery in the trunk, it's a different story since they would have already had to pass safety just to be considered road legal.

True - guess I should have worded that a different way : If the battery is moved from the stock location, it's OK for track use as long as it secured, boxed, and you don't have bare wires stretching through the car. A couple of times, I've seen them used as ballast.
