From what I can see it is only the people that DO NOT EVEN OWN an 08 or 09 lancer that are saying it is not worth going turbo or even modding it. Don't let them tell you what to do. If you want your lancer boosted go for it. Just know what you are getting yourself into before you just start buying items.

Your Damn right were EVO owners, WE have spent tousands, and thousands of dollars on our cars, and they still aren't enought. WE KNOW WHAT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT. You can only fathom about it. I wish you were in my shoe's I have about 110K in my car and I still want more. All we are saying is it's easier to start form a platform that's meant for it. You can make any piece of crap into a fast vehicle, but is it safe? is it made for it? Were trying to help the guy out. Honestly! I'm not the person to set anyone up for failure.

Sure you can make a go cart do 200 mph but is it meant for it?

Come on guy's, Is a standard Lancer meant for high speed, boosting? NO I'm sorry it looks good and is a GREAT daily driver!! a top fuel is not meant for the roads. Respect your lane.

Evo's aren't meant to have more than 600whp either. But you see alot of people modifying evo's, changing the internals, transmission, upgrading the rotors, brakes, coilovers, tires, swapping out turbos, ect. to get over 600whp safely. Mitsubishi built the evo to handle 300hp safely and reliable, the evo isn't meant to handle twice the power.

Honda's weren't meant to go fast, yet its the most modded car out of any car. Weather anyone wants to admit it or not, without civics and Acrua's the tuning scene would not be as big as it is. AWD isn't needed for a turbo, Dodge SRT4's and Mazda speed 3's are FWD with a turbo (And the Chassis and suspension on the lancer GTS is definitely better than those cars) and the new Cobalt SS is even FASTER than a stock Evo. Thats a FWD car.

Not everyone wants an evo or is trying to make an evo. Most people here just wan't to make their daily driver more fun to drive. And having a turbo is alot of fun.

Ok guy's do what you want...nobody here is trying to stop you, You asked for opinions and here are mine. SRT's are alot different than a stock neon, Acura's and civics don't already have a modded big brother. I'm just saying essentially what your doing is attempting to make an EVO when it is more economical to just purchase one.

Bob,

I am not trying to put you in the dumps, I'm really not trying to rain on your parade. It's alot of work. It'll cost about $10,000 to do what you will need to do to make everything work well and the right way. My 35R turbo kit cost $4,689 installed. Cams $650, Injectors, You'll need to re-do the fuel system $250, exhaust system $500, Alcky kit $580, you need to upgrade the brakes $800? If you have an auto you'll need to rebuild the transmission, the power will blow out the tq converter. If you have a manual it may hold up but you need to replace the Clutch $1500. Front axles? It's another $750 to have it properly tuned. I would reccomend suspension once you do this work the front tires will not get a lick of traction, they will bounce everywhere.

Sure you can probably jerry rig everything for maybe $6000, but, I can't think of anyone I know who would jerry rig their new car. I was making rational suggestions not trying to insult you, in any way. Good Luck with your endevers!

That's including the $36,600 I paid for it.
LOL na not quite to the moon.

I really didn't mean to come off cocky, I may sound that way sometimes, only because I do know it takes alot of work, and it's expensive.

I absolutly agree that a stock EVO wasn't intended for more than probably 500 hp. It takes ALOT of work to get them running higher HP than that, and then you have to add a lot of upgrades to the tranny, motor, brakes, etc......

The point that I was trying to make is that it's much easier, and cheaper to start from a more stable platform. The Brembo brakes, BBS rims, Recaro Seats, yokohama tires, the AWD traction controls, billstien suspension, and the overall handling of an EVO makes it a great platform to start with.

My buddy Brian has an eclipse was going to trade it in for an 08 lancer and once he realized how much extra money it would take to modify it, it would be more expensive than just buying the stock 08 EVO GSR. I think he saved up and is going to try to get one now that the economy is in the dumps.

Man, some harsh opinions I definitely see your point, even the "realistic" side of things, and there's no way around the $$$ factor, the better platforms to start with, etc. But the love that goes into modding/tuning any car, or the simple drive of doing something someone says you can't or shouldn't, that's what its all about

Life's short, live it up

These are all valid points. I agree the evo is a great car and what not but im not looking to go to a race track and race for pink slips. I just wanna casually race people and I dont need something like an evo to do that. why double my monthly payments and insurance to pay for something that i dont need? I think that upgrading it myself will teach me a lot and is a great opprotunity to learn more. and i also think that you should be able to do whatever you want with your car. its yours and if you wanna upgrade it, go for it. if you are a millionare and can put $110k in it, go for it.

you spent over 70k upgrading the car? holy cow...must be like a low 9 second car.

Well back to the topic. Do what you want. I think it would be a great sleeper car. LOL, people would look at it and say "its just a lancer" then they hear the turbo spooling.. "wth is that" you shift gear, a faint bov sound. "is it an evo or a lancer?" the other people in the car can't figure out what it is...lol, by the time they figure out, you'll must likely be gone. Unless its an evo...lol

from what ive read RRM turbo kit works just fine and gives our car that extra pep that we are looking for also you dont have to go and change anything except probably the clutch if you still have the stock clutch. that being said i say the best bet right now is just pay the 4500 dollars and get the RRM kit if you want to go turbo now. there is a thread that someone posted on their RRM instal and he said that he smoked a lexus is300 so to each their own.
