Another Gas Thread

Quick question:

Would it be advisable to use premium gas every once in a while over regular just to clean things out a bit? I know it burns a bit better so I figured it might have some use for that.

Thanks...

It does not burn better or cleaner. Octane isn't a measurement of detergents, it's a measurement of the resistance to detonation. The engine is tuned for regular 87 octane fuel, so that's what will give you the best results.

If you want your motor to be clean, keep up with oil/oil filter changes and use a good quality air filter that's cleaned/changed regularly. Using a good quality fuel is nice too, but a higher octane fuel won't help you with anything.

I will have to say it does def give you a smoother acceleration though. I was running 87 for the first week I got my lancer then I got 91 and havent changed since. It might not be better but it def does feel better.

As said, the engine is tuned for 87 octane fuel, however, that measurement is also at sea level. Higher elevation nets a greater resistance to detonation.

using 91 isn't bad for the car, its just a waste of money. I've recently started using 91 in because it just feels slightly smoother (it might be in my head) but the engine just seems to idle better and run quieter. Plus 91 is only like $2.00 more (max) than 87 with current gas prices. I'm also thinking about getting some mods and a tune and I wanna make sure theres no 87 left in my gas tank if I tune it for 91 or even 93
