Positive battery terminal help
Positive battery terminal help
I have purchased new battery terminals in order to give my jl amp a better connection. i was wondering why does the positive terminal seem so weird. it has like 5 different wires going to it and it seems like 3 of them are fused or something. would it be okay to just cut and splice all the wires directly to the battery terminal? any input greatly appreciated
That funky looking thing is a master fuse block. Not sure which systems are on what fuse, but it's to protect the battery from a total system failure...aka you short +12 somewhere in your car to ground. As long as you attach the +12 bus to your new battery terminals everything should be fine.
so if i just take all the wires going to the positive terminal and cut and strip them and put them in the new positive terminal it will be fine? just in the rare case i get a 12v short it will go all the way to the battery? most cars dont seem to have it setup like that so it should be fine
well i got my battery terminals and put them on today. took a while to do as i had to unbolt every wire and cut some wire ties and stuff. then i had to cut off the ends of everywire and strip them all and then tape them all up nice with electrical tape. ill post up a picture once i finish cleaning it up and get my optima yellow top battery. already without the optima i feel like my system hits harder and the engine cranks over faster. not to mention how much cleaner it looks.
I have been looking for a terminal to accept that wire with that fuse along with 1-0 gauge, 2-4 gauge power wires. To keep that wire intact with the fuse, the terminal would also have to accept a ring terminal.
What terminal did you end up with? Where did you buy it?

i got the KnuKoncepts KonFused positive and negative terminals. i have a 1/0 guage running to my amp from the positive and then the other 8 wires or so running to the other 2 inputs on the terminal. if you look at the red fuse terminal thing there are actually like 8 different wires running to it, some fused and some not. i cut the ends off every one and made everything much cleaner. still waiting for my optima battery then i will finish it up and post a pic. from the negative terminal i have the 2 ground wires going in one input and then 3 4 guage wires going into the other 2. at various ground points, one to the ecu, one to the alternator, and one to the engine itself. after adding the extra grounds, my system hits harder and i have no problems with dimming headlights while running higher wattage bulbs.
oh yeah forgot to mention where i got them. i got them from their website but you can find them on ebay for a little cheaper and its still directly from them. you wont find any higher quality terminals.
