new headers, and now stalls

Hey everyone, i jsut installed RRM Headers on my 2003 Lancer ES, and now when i stop at red lights or stop signs, the RPM drops to about 300-500, and sometimes stalls. I installed the CEL eliminator on the second O2 sensor like instructed. Does anyone have any clue as to what could be causing this.

thanks in advance

Have you pulled your negitive off of your battery for twenty minutes and then reconnected? I had to do that to mine when I did it. It resets the ECU and you shouldn't have a problem after that.

Did you hit or otherwise damage the first O2 sensor?

i had the battery disconnected the whole time. so i dont think that would have done it.

and as for the o2 sensor being damaged, from what i know about o2 sensors is that if one was damaged to the point where it doesn't work i'd get the check engine light. The stock headers had a pre-cat on them, and the eliminator just eliminates the error for not having that pre-cat anymore. at least that's what i've understood

I have OBX headers and my CEL never turned on. Why dont u try and disconnect the O2 and run it under a wheel to clean up some of the carbon and try that before u go out and spend that kind of money. Would anybody know if some Break cleaner would work for the inside? or would that be alil too harsh?

Did your stock exhaust manifold have a pre-cat on it, and what exactly did you mean by "a wheel"

Same thing happens to me everytime I disconnect my battery for more than 10 minutes. It will settle with time. It's your ECU re-learning how to work. To not stall at a red light, I just give it a little gas. 100 clicks or so and you'll be good.

I had a similar issue when i put in my short ram intake, since i disconnected the battery (as per the instructions) the ecu's memory got wiped and it had to relearn where the idle rpms should be... only took about 45 mins, and/or maybe 20 to 30 miles and then everything was back to normal.

Oh, and while the ecu is learning, make it learn what you want it to learn. Drive the car the way you plan on driving it. I don't know if it actually makes a difference or not, but I figured if the ecu had to learn something I'd teach it harsh conditions

hahaha nice blaze... in all seriousness that's a good point tho. honestly i'm not sure off the top of my head what the computer in a manual trans learns to compensate with; but i know that in an automatic when the computer is reset it has to relearn the shift points. So if you hammer on the thing and drive like an a**hole (as many jersey drivers do... yes i admit it i can be an a**hole behind the wheel, but only if you **** me off lol) then your car will develop parameters to that kind of driving.

I still have the resonator and the cat on my car. Sorry I should of been more detailed but what i mean by "wheel" i meant a polishing wheel to clean up the O2.

Also put in gas that u would want to burn in it if thats the case.

alrighty, well i didn't think it would take that long for the computer to relearn everything, if that's the case i have about 20 more miles to go, i've only been driving it to school right now cuz i thought something was ****ed up on it. But i'll wait and see what happens

thanks a lot for the feedback guys.
