I remember when that first came out the owner of AEM put his NSX on the line. Made an intake that went to the engine to a tank of water. It worked flawless. But wasn't it AEM that had to recall some because they didn't work right? So now I'm

The valves I've seen look kinda like discs that fit in between the throttlebody and the piping from the CAI. How exactly they work, I'm not sure. I assume they expel everything that's not moist air from the sides, but, hell if I know. That's part of the reason I probably won't order one until I hear of someone else putting it on the Lancer.

I'll look for the article showing how it works. Maybe it's on the aem website. It's odd, my dad got an AEM cai for his rex and didn't get one, actually I haven't seen one on a car except for a 3g eclipse.

As I understand, it's kind of an optional item, kinda like the heat shield of the Injen, you know. But, not positive.

Found this

Air Bypass Valve
AEM’s Air Bypass valve for Cold Air Induction Systems virtually eliminates the unlikely chance of water ingestion should the filter element become wet from deep puddles, rain, hail, sleet or snow–or any other scenario in which the filter element could encounter or become submerged in water. The valve installs along the upper portion of the inlet pipe on the same axis as the throttle body centerline. Should a drop in pressure occur within the pipe due to filter submersion, the valve shuts down induction at the filter and routes incoming air through its external orifices, eliminating any chance of water ingestion.
AEM’s Air Bypass Valve is for use on AEM Cold Air Systems only.

It's optional and only fits like half their intakes

Yes I'm this bored...

Huh... that's strange. I don't remember what site I was on, but the site listed like 6 different versions of that, all with different pipe sizes, and was listed as universal. Strange and disturbing this puzzle is.

They just say that so you'll buy their intake. They have different part numbers for the valves. So you just have to find the right one and install it.

You need to measure the diameter of the intake you have. If it is 2.5" then
you need a 20-401s,if it is 2.75" then use a 20-402s,if it is 3" then use a
20-403s.Let me know which one you need.
Thanks,Dave

The Injen uses a 3" pipe. I'm positive because of the packing list. Course, I'm waiting to see if the damn thing actually fits before ordering it... somebody want to be a hero?

Don't think anyone is brave enough to take a hacksaw to a perfectly good intake...If I had a Lancer I'd try it.

well, I'm thinking that that may not be necessary, just to replace one of the Injen silicon (or whatever it is) fitments with the bypass valve. Not exactly a piece of cake, but, easy none the less....

is it absolutly nesasary for the bypass valve to go in direct line wiht the trottle body? you could juts use the injen coupler raplce that wiht the bypass the one after the mas......witch brings up anohte rpoint

if you install the by pass valve in closer to the throttle body then the mas when the induction from the cone filter shuts down in the unlikly emergency were water is being sucked in it is gonna kill the engine anyway cause the mas wont get a reading because there would be no air coming in past it there for causing your engine to stall and you having to get out and push in the rain cause you wouldnt be able to start it again

my friend drove through a huge as puddle slowly pulling into a parking lot wiht his 200 sx and he has no wheel wells cause he is having the sprayed or some **** and he sucked up water cause his engine died he pulled it into the parking lot and he turned it on it bogged a whole lot and then he was revin the **** otu of it (dont know why maybe he though the water would come out or something) and he dont have any problmes with his car and this happend like a week ago.....

Well, I think it makes sense that it would be on axis with the throttle body in that just because anything previous to that would mean that it may be unnecissary for the bypass to actually kick in... or something. I just think that it would be pretty easy to replace that first coupling right outside the throttlebody.
