V8 Guy with some questions for his lancer

Ok im a V8 and V6 and have been all my life but I wanted to get a daily driver so I bought a 2002 OZ Lancer cause I couldnt afford gas for my T/A Interceptor.
I want to advance my timing, put in a cam, and Match port the head.
My Question I this, how are the measurments on timing, are they the same on the lancers like normal SOHC's as far as degrees go. ( I was told that on the lancers if I adjusted the timing 4 degrees like I would on an american V8 it would be the equivailiant of 12 degrees and would result in squished valves and clink clank boom.
I can't believe im asking how to adjust timing on a car I own a dam domestic hot rod shop!
Im getting ready to match port the head and put in a web comp cam and advance the timing so I figured I might ask you guys.
Any one know of some good upgrades, im looking to drop no more than 500 in parts but I want to get at least 150hp.
Im all ears and if some one can help they can use one of my bays for a day here in louisville.

quite a change in heart huh, how are u enjoying the lancer so far? and as for your sig, 20 pounds wont hurt it, it'll kill it lol. and as for the technical stuff, i cant help you with the cams and timing and stuff but try searching for the lancer upgrade path. it's somewhere on the boards..and check out www.RoadRaceMotorsports.com they have lots of lancer parts for ya..good luck with your car!

It's not a bad little car but the thing needs some serious power man. I tried to pull out in traffic the other day and almost got swiped, im still used to my T/A.
Instead of getting the cam I think im just gonna do a match port and cold air intake but im still undecided untill I get some answers form some of the guys around here.
I just dont want that cel comming on because its only got 15000 miles on it and I dnot feel like ripping the dash apart to kill the cel.

I don't get it... You bought the car for fuel economy and you're gonna throw in a fat cam in there for what again?

150HP is going to be tough to get with only $500
My exhaust, intake, test pipe, ground wires got me around 135HP roughly and cost me around $1000

as far as adjusting the cam timing, call a dealer and talk to one of the techs, they sould be able to get you the timing specs from the service man. or buy the manual, good to have anyway

you could call boe, rob or anyone else over at road race motorsports and ask them. There are very few people more knowledgeable than them about our car.

I bought my lancer cause it looked sporty, it was something the wife and I could go out in and was comfortable in.
But I can't take it any more I need some pep in this thing or im gonna wind up getting in a wreck.
My other car gets 10 to 12 miles to the gallon if im lucky, the lancer saves me a ton of cash in gas.
I guess I have the speed disease.

I know I know im not gonna squeez the poor little thing.
But I wonder if I took a turbo off of a Ford F-350, I wonder if the engine would hold up for some small boost. LOL!

I still have pleanty of free time to do a few small things to my new Lancer Project.

It will hold up to about 8-9lbs on standard internals, but you're certainly going to need to add much more fuel. 230cc injectors don't exactly pour the fuel and the pistons have very narry ring lands. It's will outside of your $500 budget, but it can be done cheaply (non-intercooler) if you do the piping and all of the work yourself.

Anyway, you're going to be hard pressed to get the car going much faster for that price. My advice would be either keep it stock and live with it, or prepare to fork over money you may not have.

SOMEBODY SHOOT ME!!!

I decided today to take apart some things and try and get an idea of the factory restrictions on the intake side.
And I did a boo boo I screwed up the honeycomb in front of the mas and now I need to get a new one and im courious as to what makes models and years have the exact same honeycomb.
( I could have sworn I saw one like it in a mirage I worked on a few years ago but im not sure)
In a few days im gonna do the match port.
So cold air pipe, match port everything and I might make a exaust test pipe to by pass the cats.
Give me some input guys, im fired up and ready to try anything.

Buddy you'd be lucky to get 150 hp from $3000 in parts.
