it depends on the current situation, people have blown their engines on nos, and people have turbos on completely stock internals, the engine is actually pretty good, pretty reliable, it can stand up to a lot, you should expect a long life for it and your transmission as long as you get it serviced accordingly

as far as people just using their Mitsus for driving, they tend to be rather reliable. My mom has had her Eclipse for 6 years now, and has had no problems with the engine or auto trans. From what I hear, the Mitsu trans is "bullet proof" although I am sure a lot of launching and rev matched shifting can do a number on any trans. But all in all, I think you have found a reliable car. Now it's time to void the warranty and mod it! j/k

Then again, how many people break stuff in their engines and transmissions? I mean, if you are not pushing too much power (vs stock) and you do all your maintanance properly, on schedule.

Actually, most FWD transmissions die around 60-80k miles. Although the average import 4 banger engine lasts over 150k. But yeah, I do most of my maintenance, and take it to the dealer for what I can't do myself.

My motor was about 96K before a truck killed my car. The motor was still strong like it was still 1 yrs old.

For those honda and toyo lasting that long, I bet most of those owners never maintained their car, ie bad valve seals and stuff. Basically, they think it's bullet prodf, even after tossing tons of smoke out of the exhaust.

As for Mitsu tranny, it has to do with tons of HP + AWD + Weight + drag strip = worn gears. Scobby has that probably too.
